Newsmax Panel Attacks Women Who Won't Have Sex After Losing Abortion Rights

A Newsmax panel criticized women who reacted to President-elect Donald Trump's victory by declining to have sex, shaving their heads, or being sterilized.

By David Edwards — December 2, 2024
A Newsmax panel criticized women who reacted to President-elect Donald Trump's victory by declining to have sex, shaving their heads, or being sterilized.

During a Sunday morning discussion on the conservative news network, host Sarah Williamson said women were making the "crazy" decision to be sterilized because they feared that anti-abortion laws could put their lives at risk.

"I think they have deeper issues than Trump being president," Newsmax contributor Deneen Borelli argued. "And there's a lot of other things going on. Women restraining sex from their husbands and women shaving their heads."

could kill you because of oppressive abortion laws, why would you rely on birth control methods that can sometimes fail? Seems like a perfectly sensible choice to me.

I imagine it's an incredibly tiny number when one considers that there's 10s of million of women of child bearing age

As more women fall victim to insane laws, you can expect more women to take self-protective measures.

With the possibility that that number may increase but it's also possible that it won't.

There are about 66 million women of child bearing age in the US. 1% of that number is 660,000.

Righto, you talking couch-potato heads. They have the issue of their autonomy over their own bodies, that they previously and rightly enjoyed, being taken away from them by an Opus Dei Catholic Supreme Court at the urging of Donald Trump.

Even with your minds being soaked in MAGA, you are almost to the point of actually hearing and understanding the majority of American women. Not quite, but almost.

But the reason they’re doing it is because every human being has a fundamental right to control decisions that impact on their health, and they’re telling you they don’t trust the MAGA era to respect that one fundamental right:

Now they've decided women shouldn't have the healthcare option of abortion, they're complaining that abstaining from sex is wrong. Because they're hypocritical dipshits who really want control over women's bodies.

I don't remember her name, but the story of the young woman from Georgia, who had been told another pregnancy could kill her, who died when she couldn't get help to complete a miscarriage after seeking an abortion in NC might lead to women in similar positions opting for sterilizations.

They would be sacrificing the ability to change their minds on not having future children even though doing so risks death. The chance of dying is increased by their state's law. That could be the straw that moves them to opt for sterilization. This is absolutely not "crazy" but a very serious effort to do what is best for their family.

As to not having sex, that is always a choice in any situation for any woman or man. Are they asking for promiscuity??

Some women will have several miscarriages in their lifetimes. If you are not interested in having children (personally I would feel guilty bringing a child into this world) it would make sense. 3% to 5% of the women who go through sterilization (having their tubes tied) will get pregnant.

... Antiabortion lawmakers and judges in these states are failing women and their families, causing preventable deaths and irreparable pain and heartbreak for their families—leaving children without mothers, parents without their daughters, and spouses without their partners.

Ms. is marking these women’s stories. This article will be updated to mark every single name made public.

These women should be alive today. And these are likely not the only cases, as there has been a significant increase in maternal mortality rates in states that implement strict abortion bans ...
