(36,820 posts)so far. He has threatened to send troops to Mexico already. He may decide he has to save Canada from
left wing radicals. He said he will use the military against American citizens if necessary.

The theory of it is not outlandish as it's a typical raison d'être of fascist governments...'breathing room' as Hitler called his move to re-militarize the Rhineland.
Authoritarian regimes typically try such moves for one big reason...to galvanize their followers by giving them a cause, and to gauge who they are and their loyalty, certainly a quality important to trump.
I doubt our military whose loyalty is to the Constitution, will go along with it.
I've often thought that this 'breathing room' concept and lack of it's possibility is why the fascist movements/politicians in today's Europe have nowhere to expand and test the concept and therefore gain followers and their loyalty.
trump, whose role model is Hitler, would love to try it but the sick fuck who bungled the covid pandemic so spectacularly, is aging, has rapidly declining mental acuity and was never the sharpest tool in the shed, is just not capable of pulling it off as there will be tremendous opposition from women and men with working and capable brains.

(38,463 posts)The damage & harm will still be horrific. I can't believe we're just going to hand our 250-year-old experiment over to people who want to destroy it. I hope there's a plan in the works, but I don't think there is, other than batten down the hatches.

(58,905 posts)Trump and his minders are quite capable of thinking about taking over Canada and Mexico.
Trump forced Trudeau to grovel at MAL.
And talked about Canada being a great 51st state.
This was not just a joke.
Putin wants control of Ukraine and Europe.
Xi wants Taiwan and control of the Pacific.
Trump gets North America.
It makes sense to me given Trump and MAGA mindset.
And Russian and Chinese geopolitical goals.

(12,944 posts)Nothing even close to this will ever make its way out of the White House. There might be a lot of craven avarice in the world (although I think the paranoid among us tend to overestimate) - regardless, that does not mean all those are ready to climb aboard the delusion express. (as something called self preservation)
Donald Trump will never see anything remotely like this occurring. And it's doubtful that he even has plans for such. The idea deserves every ounce of ridicule it receives.

Yes of course, the overall goal is to weaken all the western democracies
and then Putin and Xi will be in control of the new world order.

(1,263 posts)They sound like Putin. That Canada is full of white supremist nazis. Seems to be more of that ilk here in the United States.
Muskrat grandparents were from Saskatchewan. Odd but Bush Sr. Had mentioned the Trilateral Commission in a speech. Questions about whether market-based economies will be able to address climate change, digital revolution, and rising inequalities.

Both Mexico and Canada have Natural resources desired by the United States. Canada also has a sophisticated Military equal to ours in many respects. NEVER would either Canada or Mexico surrender their sovereignty to the United States without a fight.

I think Michael Cohens 15 minutes of fame is up. He's been cashing in on this for years now. Him and a few others.... with their tv appearances and books. What was it all for?
The American people have spoken and re-elected Donald Trump, Cohen wrote.
Accordingly, I believe we must all acknowledge and respect the office of the Presidency and dismiss the case forthwith.
