(18,073 posts)Older people really do resort to eating pet food (not even the best brands) when they can't make ends meet. And if the Republicans have their way, a lot of Senior Citizens will become impoverished.

(2,097 posts)I can remember before food stamps, when the drug store I worked at had a sale on canned cat food, many older women would buy a dozen or more cans. This is when cat food came in 12 oz cans instead of 3 and 5 oz cans.
I was new to the store and asked an older worker why these women were buying so much cat food. I learned that cat food was all they could afford to eat. Then food stamps were introduced, and over time we had fewer cat food sales.
