There is a saying for these situations that go beyond our own moral judgements, and it goes like this: I don't agree with what he did, (insert situational dilemma), I can understand it.
And in the "insert situational dilemma," in this case it would be this: ...but if it had something to do with watching a loved one die because of a denial in coverage ...
