UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting.

It's amazing how much hate there was for that guy. My first reaction was that because he was being accused of insider trading, that someone involved in that crime had him taken out.

But as the day progressed, I was gobsmacked (always wanted to use that word), by the amount of hate and "oh well" our country had for him—as I sifted through social media posts.

Weird day.

2. I'm not criticizing what is going on, it's just looking like there's a shift going on.

The rich vs. the poor war is becoming evident, and this caught me off guard.

Just commenting on my reaction. I thought it was a hit to keep him quiet.

The point is that the reaction is somewhat surprising. The reaction is the point. The op made that very clear.

As Stanly Tucci'c character Jefferson Grieff responds to the warden, "Everyone is a murderer. You just have to meet the right person."

sense on the subject I have always thought that eventually some people will push back in a violent manner. It is not an endorsement of it rather just an observation of what inevitably happens when people get repressed enough or screwed enough. Some keep taking it and others do not. Everybody has different limits of what they can or will take.

details right now to say one way or the other about this specific act? I'm maybe behind the curve since I haven't been reading for most of the day.

10. We live in an oligarchy

The corporations are enjoying power and exercising control over our lives. They are sociopathic entities, void of human empathy and focused only on profits.

The oligarchs are not elected and the people have no recourse for their abuse. It has been rare that our lawmakers address their abuses. If you look through US history, the people have used violent means in the past to stand up to this power.

As we enter the era of leaders with no ethics or morality, I believe we can expect more response from the people.

12. I think this person likely had motive, but it may not be the kind that everyone here thinks he has.

I think he had "ideals". Sorta like the same "ideals" that the unabomber had. He may not have had a personal experience with UHC or if he is young and healthy, he may not have any connection to any health insurance. However, he may have been very much against corporate greed. We've seen this with unabomber and Earth Liberation Front. They have their ideals.. For instance, they bombed Shaklee. Unabomber went after the president of United Airlines. He went after CEOs who supported the forest industry.

It's way too early to figure out what is going on. Hopefully, the police and maybe the FBI will figure out who did this and a possible motive. The fact that there are very few details on what happened (as far as motive) doesn't stop people from offering their own opinion.

And I'll add my observations. At some point in the last couple of decades, our country has become inundated with hate. It's on the TV, AM radio, the internet and so on. Hate is a strong emotion and it's a good way to attract and keep people's attention (and who doesn't like attention when it can be monetized). Twitter/X (I'm not on) seems to be a microcosm of our current situation.

You mix a constant barrage of hate and you get a population that believes it's being victimized by the system. Whether or not that's true is irrelevant. If you're constantly being poked by the anger stick, you're apt to lash out at some one or some thing. Being constantly angered is not good for anyone's psyche. Add guns to the mix and you know what you get.

So maybe you shouldn't be surprised at people's online responses given the amount of anger some people seem to expose themselves to these days. But also keep in mind the online response may be skewed towards folks who have constantly exposed themselves to these anger mongers. It may not reflect everyone's opinion.
