The Hill - 5 new details in search for UnitedHealthcare CEOs shooter
by Sarah Fortinsky - 12/05/24 5:52 PM ET
New details emerged Thursday as the manhunt entered its second day for the suspected gunman in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Thompson was gunned down shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, outside New York Hilton Midtown, where he was set to address an annual investor meeting.
He was shot at least once in the back and once in the right calf, according to New York Police Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital about 30 minutes later.
Police officials have called the shooting targeted but have not specified a motive.
The suspect remained at large as of Thursday evening, but new reporting has emerged as police double down on their search efforts.
Messages on casings
Police recovered three live 9 mm rounds and three discharged shell casings from the scene.
A senior New York City law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told NBC News on Thursday the shells found at the scene had the words deny, defend and depose written on them. ABC News first reported on the words.

The message on the bullets could not be more clear.
And most Americans knew right away why this CEO was killed.

(1,627 posts)4. His wife, when commenting on the murder
said he'd had threats and speculated it may have been about "lack of coverage".

(58,803 posts)5. There is quite a bit of motive and many many possible suspects.
The list of people UHC has screwed over is very long and goes back decades.
