Ex-Mike Pence Aide Olivia Troye Says Kash Patel Threatened to Sue Her for Calling Him a 'Delusional Liar' on MSNBC

Olivia Troye, a former counterterrorism aide to Mike Pence, is being threatened with legal action by Kash Patel after comments she made on MSNBC.

Patel, president-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, sent a letter to Troye’s legal counsel following her bit on MSNBC. The former Pence aide posted the letter in it’s entirety – which asked for a public retraction of her comments – on her social media account and said she stood by what she said.

“Today, Kash Patel sent a letter to my counsel @markzaidesq.bsky.social threatening to sue & demanding I retract my MSNBC comments on his unfitness to serve as FBI Director,” she wrote. “This follows his threats against media & political opponents, showing how he might act if confirmed. I stand by my statements.”

While on MSNBC, Troye took Patel to task, calling him a liar and someone who shouldn’t be trusted to be in charge of the FBI.

Opinion: Statements of opinion are protected by free speech and are not considered defamatory.

Also the victim has to prove the statements did major damage to their reputation.

Mark Zaid is a first class attorney and Binnall is a hack who has filed a couple of lawsuits for trump. I love the concept of using a picture from Monty Python to respond to Patel's demand for a retraction

This response by Troye's attorney made me laugh

A national security lawyer with a reputation for defending political whistleblowers appeared unfazed by legal threats flung by President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to head the FBI.

In a legal letter on Friday, Mark Zaid sneered at demands Kash Patel made for Olivia Troye, a former counterterrorism aide to Mike Pence, to “publicly retract defamatory statements” of the MAGA loyalist. Zaid answered Patel’s lawyer Jesse Binnall, a veteran Trump attorney, by first noting that Troye’s statements have been previously stated “by a wide swath of the knowledgeable population.”

He then offered Patel’s attorney a visual image in his letter to reiterate his stance.

“But to answer your specific question as to Ms. Troye’s intensions as to a retraction, I think Monty Python expresses it best,” Zaid wrote above a photo of a mustached character from the Monty Python film known as the “French Taunter.”

“My counsel @markzaidesq.bsky.social’s response to #KashPatel & his threat to sue me for being critical of him on media & stating he is unfit to serve as FBI Director,” Troye wrote on social media. “Monty Python enters the chat.”

And Zaid wasn’t done. He also launched a social media blitz where he dug into his unwavering defense of his client and referred to Patel as “thin-skinned.”
