(2,589 posts)can say goodbye to reelection. No one from 60 and up will vote for them.
I wish I could believe that, but after the reversal of Roe, and the rapist getting elected again, makes me a little nervous.
I cant drive, walk without a walker, and am constantly on pain medication, I can never work again. Over forty years working, and this is such bullshit.

(28,518 posts)But SS, Medicare and Medicaid cuts....that is reality.

(2,358 posts)The reason I bought up roe is because if people voted for the rapist even after women lost bodily autonomy, I dont know how much people will take and still vote for their abusers.

(2,166 posts)that the GOP is considering it. You'd think they'd want to keep the lie going. Unless they just know it's too late.

(781 posts)This is hardly surprising. Eliminating social programs has been baked into the GOP agenda since they recoiled in horror at the New Deal and immediately began to undermine it (with significant help from many people who've called themselves Democrats). Per GOP ideology, only the wealthy and privileged should benefit from government. Now for the $64 million question: what is the Democratic Party's ideology? Might be time to clean that up. Or is it already too late?

(14,171 posts)People spend their entire working lives contributing to their own Social Security. Then, the oligarchs through their on-the-pad proxies in congress, abscond with all of those contributions. I think they would be the next ones to be "Johnsoned."

(4,674 posts)In places like Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, etc. where significant fractions of the population live on Social Security Disability payments.
Cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid wont just hurt retirees, its going after the income of part of Trumps base.
Rebl2
(14,870 posts)Apparently they didnt believe he would do that, but here we are. They voted for him and now they will find out they voted against themselves regarding SS and Medicare and Medicaid.

(2,470 posts)I remember what Janeane Garofalo said on her old Air America show: "The Ownership Society--society where you're ruled by the owners!". Boom...mic drop. Can't really improve on that. They want it all, and now they're coming for your Social Security, your food stamps, disability payment, everything.
That is what 50 percent of+- wanted, Your wish is being arranged by the Repuke party and their owners. Well done idiots. I have no empathy for you.
keep_left
(2,470 posts)...25-30% of the population, since only about half ever shows up to vote. But you're nonetheless correct--people are voting for their own slavery. Unfortunately, we all have to live with it.

If we get our SS cut too badly we're going to be truly f'ed.

(10,067 posts)At the VA today for physical therapy. I always rage seeing trump car stickers outside.
As I sat at a table filling out my mileage report, a Vet, had to be 70s, tattered and broken walked up to the other side to do his paperwork. Looks to be totally on SS, Medicare, Medicaid, VA disability. He was wearing what looked to be new, stiff camo Veteran's for Trump hat. I really wanted to reach over the table and snack it off his damn head and tell him to wake the fuck up.
So God damned sick of stupid. Especially when it fucks us all over.

(377 posts)is going to happen to the economy when you suddenly yank the income of millions of Social Security recipients and Medicare benefit recipients?
Republicans see the world through a set of rich eyes and think we recipients of these programs are like them. In their twisted minds they think the money we get from Social Security and in Medicare benefits is just fun money we don't really need because, like them, we all have tons of money stashed away.
In reality most of the little money we do get goes right back into the US economy for food, bills, clothes cars, utilities and other needs. Yank it away suddenly and the US economy and Medical establishment will crash. Welcome to the Great Depression all over again.
Fucking chin drooling half witted idiots.

(4,123 posts)If Congress/POTUS/SCOTUS come after the guns and gun ownership. Theyll have to come after the guns first - because there are a shitload of people that only have one of those social programs funding to live on. If you have nothing, then you have nothing to lose.
There wouldnt be a safe place in America for a politician regardless of party.
There wouldnt be a place that a rich man could call safe outside of his mansion with Cartel like security.
They would have to shut down the public access to Congress/White House and the Supreme Court - because I think that we would also start to have suicide bombers; people setting themselves on fire in public to protest;; and finally the Lone Assassin multiplied by hundreds.
IMO.

(1,468 posts)before they have voted to hurt those people who own most of those guns,
and before one of their own sorry sons of bitches who voted thus,
gets shot in the street---
or maybe before MANY of them get shot in the street,
and maybe a few of their family members...
(just speculating here, I don't advocate such---
but--- give them a good reason, ok, GQP??)
I don't advocate violence---
but if Republicans start shooting each other in the street over policy---
BRING ON THE POPCORN!!!!

(651 posts)if they think cutting SS, Medicare and Medicaid is a winning strategy.
who knows who will be pissed off enough to take one or more of them on. Like storm the Capitol, thats done before!
Buckeyeblue
(5,713 posts)Not that they wouldn't cut SSI, Medicare, etc. They'll do something. But it seems like this was put out there to get Democratic leaders to talk about something other than the list of crazies Trump is putting in his administration.
