Nothing makes the heart flutter quite like a killer with a nice smile? I don't know what this says about the current state of our society. Maybe you all have some ideas on the matter. Because, from my humble perspective, this is just plain bat shit crazy...
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14165129/disturbing-hot-assassin-trend-UnitedHealthcare-CEO-murder.html
"Newly released images of the smiling suspect in the brutal assassination of UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson have sparked wild claims online - including that he looks like two well-known movie stars (Jake Gyllenhaal and Timothee Chalamet). A disturbing 'hot assassin' trend is also now spreading on social media with some ghoulish users swooning over the killer who was seen grinning at a hostel in New York."
"Reacting to the pictures released by NYPD yesterday, one user wrote: 'Ok is it just me or is the CEO assassin kinda hot?' Another said: 'I hope the UHC assassin can get online and see how much we all love him and everyone finds him hot.'"

I wouldn't call him "hot" since that would be self-defeating,
but I would not mind stealing his teeth.

Personally, I think it's a product of being lonely. You can fixate on someone who is impossible to love (like the way they see themselves) and also who is impossible to obtain (in jail, on death row, etc.) It's a way to love without being vulnerable or hurt.

(1,631 posts)I saw a Tiktok compilation on News Nation with one girl twerking in front of him on a big screen. Yes, we're in some new reality, now.
Several months ago, some Houthi guy, young and hot, put a video on Tiktok showing him in a boat, headed out toward some ship they were going to attack, and he turned the camera on his face and did a selfie. Tiktok went crazy for him.
I'll admit, folk hero dude is super cute and I have to keep reminding myself he's a cold blooded killer. Tiktok, though, they don't care!

(1,397 posts)Almost 50 years ago, there was a pretty good (albeit wildly unrealistic) movie called 3 Days of the Condor. Robert Redford is a CIA analyst who returns from lunch to his office to find everyone else murdered. He contacts his higher ups, only to learn that they're trying to kill him too. On the run and needing a place to hide for a day or two, he kidnaps Faye Dunaway at gunpoint. Faye puts up a good pretense of not being okay with the situation...until she falls madly in love with him in the course of less than 24 hours. I guess that's possible when you look like Robert Redford? The difference here though is that this is real effing life, not a movie.

(1,631 posts)I have zero doubt that people would and are helping him. I'm also sure he's following the news and must be in shock at these reactions and his bizarre new status. Pretty sure his intention was to kill a man and disappear, not be a pin up. Unlike the cases where deranged women fall for serial killers (Bundy) and family annihilators (Chris Watts), this guy is distinguished by the fact he killed somebody that a good damn chunk of society is A-OK with. Disturbing doesn't even begin to describe what's happening.

(1,631 posts)but our society is and that's a huge problem. When Anthem Blue Cross quickly backtracked on their absurd about to be implemented policy of not paying for general anesthesia, while that was good, what message did it send? Murder works!
