(CNN) - As the investigation into the fatal shooting of a health care executive in Manhattan enters its fourth day, the FBI says it is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the gunman.
Federal investigators are assisting the New York City Police Department as they piece together clues, including a backpack, photos, video, ammunition, DNA and more, to help zero in on a suspect they believe is no longer in the city.
We are seeking the publics help in identifying the unknown suspect responsible for the homicide, the FBI said Friday in an agency news release.
The NYPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000, the department said in a social media post Thursday.
The shooting suspect, believed to have left New York City on an interstate bus, has not been identified or located following the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson police believe was definitely planned, NYPD officials told CNN on Friday.

(8,147 posts)would put at least a million dollar bounty on the guy.
50,000.00 is about a half hours pay for the victim.

(229 posts)They truly care for no one. The people who have died as a result of their denials and delays and deposes is way over 50 thousand.
Think. Again.
(18,576 posts)Why is this one murder out of thousands so important to the FBI?
I think they only offered $5,000 for info on mtg the Jan. 6 pipebomber.

Is it only because the guy was a big shot?

(10,699 posts)gets killed on the streets of a large city, and after all, the US has the best justice money can by. Random US citizen or resident shot on the street - well, the police will get around to it when they can.

(5,115 posts)I'm wondering what the actual process & policy are that gets the FBI involved? Does someone call their Congress reps and pressure them to get the FBI on the case or do local politicians or the PD do it?
This seems to me to be a state level crime unless the perp is thought to have moved out of state(?) - AFAIK, there is no clear evidence that that has happened.
I also wonder if the reward money is put up by the company and/or family (which might explain why high profile cases get reward money offered and Joe-Blow gets zip).

(3,250 posts)Seems to me that they're treating this case as if the shooter is a potential serial killer. You know, the "nobody's safe as long as he out there" thingy. Meanwhile, public consensus appears to believe it was a single, targeted murder.

(30,315 posts)It has been discovered that suspect was traveling on Greyhound bus, which makes it an interstate investigation.
It's not unusual for them to get involved. Usually local LE contacts the FBI.
FBI actually quietly assists in many local investigations. They provide resources for local investigations. FBI has large contingent in NYC. They even have a large office here in San Antonio. They are there when needed. Things such as AFIS, CODIS, FBI crime labs are all available for local cases.

(3,250 posts)Adams answered that they do have a name, but he couldn't give it out because it would give the guy "an advantage."
Huh? All the shooter needs to know, to have an advantage, is that the police have his name. Name or not, the shooter knows to go deeper into hiding.

(10,334 posts)... it was $10,000 previously. They didn't get any takers, I guess, so they raised it to $50,000. Now, if I had information and was smart, I might have waited for the price to go up... so, why wouldn't i wait for maybe $100,000, or $500,000?
