I remember as a school child when I learned chronological order and history. I was eager to tell my grandmother that I had learned that her birthday was on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack. She quickly informed me that Pearl Harbor happened on HER birthday. I realized that day she was here long before 1941. In fact she was born in 1887.
Since then I have noticed tragic events that interfere with others as they celebrate a certain day. My aunt's birthday was April 19, the Oklahoma city bombing, my brother's is December 14, the Sandy Hook shooting. I know since there have been so many violent events in this country many people have to think of that as they celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
Such a violent world. I still remember that day in the early 1960s when I heard my grandmother lament how her day was affected.

(6,353 posts)One of the Brits confessed to me, after quite a few beers, that his first reaction to the news of 9/11 was "now the Americans will understand what we've been going through with the IRA". As the day went on, he realized that this was way beyond anything that the Irish had ever done.
