Donald Trump on Saturday declared that the U.S. "should have nothing to do with" fighting in Syria, prompting outrage among some experts.

"Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT," Trump said on Truth Social.

The President-elect added, "THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!"

Trump is scared of being saddled with a Syria mess during his first hundred days. Some of us are old enough to remember that George H.W. Bush committed US troops to Somalia during his transition period (ironically, 32 years ago tomorrow - December 8, 1992), a decision that ended in the famous Battle of Mogadishu on October 3-4, 1993 (notoriously, "Black Hawk Down" )- at the time one of the most shocking losses of the US military since Vietnam, all of which fell on Clinton's head.

News today was the the rebels had taken the Palmyra air base, which has been held and operated by the Russians since 2020.
