Lobby for Canada: Tariffs: Canada trade deficit 9 pc: world 26 pc, Mexico 33 pc, China 129 pc
If you value the USA economy, lobby for no tariffs on Canada.
Canada's trade with the US is vital to both countries, especially vehicles and lumber for houses, two huge components of US affordability. Base commodities (Canada) are more vital than smart phones (China) to US economy.
The Great Depression resulted from international tariff war. Import tariffs make goods less affordable, so US importers do less business and
lay US people off. Tariffs create retaliatory tariffs which reduce exports to those countries which means US exporters have to
cut US payrolls.
There are two ways to improve the trade balance percentages:
1) Make the economy stronger so it is more efficient. This happened under Biden and Obama. Imports increased but so did exports.
2) Make the country poorer so it can afford fewer imports. This is what happened under Bush: the trade deficit ballooned under Bush until he allowed the Great Recession of 2008 to happen. The trade deficit was cut in half because the country became significantly poorer.
Trade deficit with USA as a percentage of imports:
Canada: 9 %
World: 26 %
Mexico: 33 %
China: 129 %
