And don't move them until the transaction is complete. Hard to do sometimes.

One time I had somebody bumping my butt with their cart. Often enough that it wasn't an accident. I just ignored it since I avoid confrontation, but I wish I'd chewed them out.

I’m old and drive at or below the speed limit. I figure anyone that is in a hurry should have left earlier.

Who knows where they’re going in such a hurry maybe their mom is in the hospital or they’re late for their daughter’s dance recital or they’re late for work. Sometimes people leave late, cats throw up on the bed or you break a glass. Crap happens.

I mean that slowing down in front of a tailgaiter is passive-agressive. That’s not going to make them stop tailgating, that’s just going to make them angrier. Just let them pass. What’s the big deal?

After some elderly bozo kept pushing me to go faster and faster, I took my first opportunity to move to the next lane so he could repeat his performance with the person who had been in front of me. I also flipped him the bird, something I had never done before or since.

I also have some awareness of the next exit ramp and a few other things. No need for you to be insulting.

When I lived in the city and took the freeway regularly. If the car in front of you is closely tailgating the car in front of them, it's wise to leave even more space between cars. The idiot who's tailgating is likely to slam brakes on violently and who needs that on a freeway.

When you can prove it's brake checking. You get a ticket for tailgating, but the accident is actually caused by the front person. In Florida. I don't know about elsewhere.

And illegal in Florida. I used to do that, but not anymore. Illegal and dangerous. I just take my foot off the gas, slow down and let them pass if able and I can move over. I'm not getting shot by some crazy, angry idiot.

If the guy in front of you is tailgating and for whatever reason the car that he's tailgating needs to slow down or brake, this guy will stamp on the brakes out of utter urgency, probably starting a chain-reaction pile up.

IMO, most freeway pileups would involve fewer cars if there was a little more distance between them.

Yep, I misunderstood.

Yeah about the freeway, too. I always try to leave the required space. I'm not young anymore, and the reflexes leave you.

And passing on the right when on a three lane and the left is clear. Grr. That's so dangerous and folks do it all the time. I try to stay in the right lane, but some asswipes don't even give you a chance even when you clearly have your blinker on. That's why I try and keep a 360° visual on everything.

I've never had an accident in my 63 years that was my fault. Except once when I was driving a hoopty and the brakes went out. That sucked.

I wasn't clear the first time. I used to get so frustrated, being held up on the freeway because some idiot had rear-ended another. Totally uneccessary.

Moved to a country town fourteen years ago. Haven't been to the city for - maybe five years. Don't miss it. 😎

I owned a Volvo 264GL (European spec car) sedan and was driving on on motorway and a Mini Cooper began tailgating me. Even though we were in the slow lane he refused to pass me. After about two miles of slowing down and of his tailgating I decided to floor the car. We were the only two cars on the motorway at that time and as I sped away from him I could see his car get smaller and smaller. I have no doubt he felt small for trying to intimidate me with his tailgating.

It really shouldn't be there and the yield is the only way to make a right turn at the light. It also has poor visibility because it angles away from the incoming traffic and the speed limit is 45 mph. Unless the light is red, I stop and look.

I've had numerous drivers drive around me. (All in trucks of course)
Then I noticed one driver had been rear ended at the site.

‘A very serious situation:’ WSP warns of ‘bump-jackings’
Sep 18, 2024, 4:24 PM

BY JAMES LYNCH
KIRO Newsradio reporter
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is warning drivers to beware of a recent rash of carjackings along Interstate 5 (I-5). WSP is calling these crimes “bump-jackings” because armed assailants are bumping cars from behind and when the driver pulls over, young men wearing masks, jump out and carjack them at gunpoint.

The first bump-jacking happened just after midnight Monday then two more about the same time Tuesday morning.

“Three different situations, armed individuals have gotten out of the suspect car,” WSP spokesperson Chris Loftis told KIRO Newsradio. “Anywhere from three to six young people described as teenagers. They’re wearing ski masks. They rob the person, and, in some cases, they punched, and so there have been some physical assaults and then they take the car.”

(Tailgating could be more serious than thought.)

My wife says I possess what she calls "the look.:" She says it's sometimes involuntary. Had a woman huffing and muttering obscenities behind us in a check out once because we were apparently taking too long. Supposedly I gave her the look and she quickly changed lanes. I didn't think it was that bad, but my wife laughed and said, sweetie, she probably thought you were going to carve out her liver and eat it in front of her kids. Damn. Sorry. In hurry and politely ask to go in front? Absolutely. Go right ahead. But intentional rudeness? I just can't suffer that I guess.

Plus, she can't see that well (that really, really early morning taking her to get cataract surgery was pointless), and is so vain she won't wear her glasses. Says the doctor told her she only needed them for reading. I just laugh and tell her she's full of shit and she needs better doctors.

Anyway, I've been known to push people's shopping carts halfway down the aisle if they block it. They get mad and I just shrug and move on. Don't engage, they like that.
