Many people who voted for Trump are going to be quite surprised when the Republicans cut Social Security and Medicare. My Stepfather is retired and living down in Florida. He voted for Trump. He gets a pension from his former teaching job and Social Security. He is one of many that will be shocked if Social Security is cut. These people do not know what they are in for. Trump and the MAGA Republicans have suckered these people. Trump and MAGA are for the billionaires, not the Middle Class or Working Class. Many people who voted for Trump are going to find out what a mistake that was.

(3,123 posts)SS. I think they'll raise the age and change some rules but those getting SS I think will be fine.

(548 posts)Once they start digging into it it'll become clear cutting it entirely is a deathwish. Some minor tweaking and they'll boast it's a win.

(4,640 posts)why dd he vote for trump?
I don't exactly know why my Stepfather voted Trump. He is a lifelong Republican and he considers himself a moderate Republican. We do not talk politics in any great detail.

(22,167 posts)Many Trump voters voted for mythical Trump and not the real guy. Most Trump voters spend 24/7 in fantasy land. Reality is going to hit them hard, so most will bury their head in the sand and pretend the leader is great.

(1,645 posts)Complained about Democrats on FB all the time for as many years as I've known her. During Obama's Presidency, she got particularly nasty. It was also during Obama's Presidency that her husband, my Uncle, was diagnosed with cancer. In between rants about Democrats, Democratic policies, and Obama, she'd talk about how grateful she was for Medicare as without it they would not have been able to afford my Uncle's medical care. Completely oblivious to the fact that Democrats were responsible for Medicare and for constantly fighting to protect Medicare.
I don't think Trumpers will be capable of blaming the GOP or Trump for any cuts to Medicare or SS.

(23,475 posts)Theyll be twisting themselves into a pretzel trying to blame the Democratic Party for cuts to social security and Medicare.
Sorry that your Aunt is so mixed up. It seems to me that many Trump supporters are confused, not always just bad people. My Stepfather is not a bad guy. I am not too sure that he understands politics and policy very well. So it seems to be more about ignorance rather than malevolence. There certainly are malevolent Trumpers out there. But there are also some decent people that have had the wool pulled over their eyes by Trump and his gang.

The blame will be put on Democrats for giving stuff to illegal immigrants.

(2,147 posts)The difference between 176000 and 200000 is negligible, the impact would not be great. For people who don't want to eliminate the cap entirely, the Democrats introduced a bill in 2023 to keep the current cap in place but then remove it on all income over $400,000.
