I rarely watch MSNBC anymore but I do follow their coverage of the CEO murder. So I happened to catch her chiming in on it. And all I can say is "WOW." Yes, that is a direct quote.
With an exasperated grin, she said that she knew from personal experience that people do not like to be kept on hold to talk to their insurance providers, but that is no reason to kill someone. Really. That was the only example she could think of to explain peoples' frustrations with the healthcare coverage in this country. Long wait times on the phone.
Nothing about high deductables or denied coverage or no coverage at all. Yes, Andrea, people are upset about waiting on the phone. That's what this is all about and you nailed it.
And to state the obvious, the above problems do not justify violence. She did get that right.

I probably will. You are free to read my comments or not of course. There is only one thing I am proud of in my history at DU. I have never criticized another DUer's choice of topics to post about. If I'm not interested, I just scroll on by.

(35,898 posts)Maybe I'm misreading the tea leaves, but Andrea isn't in the demographic that most advertisers are looking for. Don't they look for 25 to 45 year-olds? She's way past that. Even her kids are past that age.

(20,907 posts)His point about healthcare insurers will be muted by the drum of "mental illness." Who would kill someone because of long wait times on the phone? A crazy person so let's not talk about how people are being screwed by these large corporations.

(626 posts)She and her husband are millionaires.
Their wealth can insulate them from any denial of payment of health treatments.
What she does not realize is that health insurance has their own death panels.
I experienced it first hand.
I was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1990; I am in my third remission.
When it returned in 2019, I tried four different treatments over 2 years; all failed.
Fifth treatment was a success.
However, the insurer tried to deny payment for this fifth treatment but my healthcare provider successfully appealed.
Between the third and fourth treatments, my mobility had deteriorated and i had to use a walker.
Because when it returned in 2019, cancer was near my spinal column.
If I had not reached remission, there was a possibility that I would have experienced paralysis before dying.

(121,224 posts)No matter whom you call these days, you get put on hold because it's cheaper to have a "hold" feature than hire a bunch of operators to answer every incoming call. Comcast puts me on hold, and everybody hates Comcast. My local car repair outfit also puts me on hold, and I don't hate them at all. I'll bet Andrea Mitchell never gets put on hold because she has minions to handle her business for her. She probably doesn't get her insurance claims denied or her cable service gone haywire or her car needing fixing, either. She has people to take care of those things.
