BREAKING: Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have cast decisive votes against Biden's NLRB nominee. This means the Democrats will not secure control of the national labor regulator through 2026. These two Senators effectively handed Trump control of the board when his term begins.

The Senate on Wednesday blocked Lauren McFerrans re-nomination to the National Labor Relations Board, opening the door for Republican control of the board starting next year under President-elect Trump.
Senators voted 49 to 50 against a five-year term for McFerran, the NLRBs chair, with Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and Joe Manchin (I-Ariz.) voting with every Senate Republican, but one, to block it.
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) was the lone Republican who did not vote.
Re-confirming McFerran would have locked in a Democratic advantage on the NLRB. Her term is up next week.
Short of multiple absences on the GOP side, Democrats needed either Manchin or Sinema to vote with them, along with a tie-breaking vote by Vice President Harris, to get McFerran across the finish line.

Labor gets to relate to TSF on his terms. This will go well.

(24,717 posts)Now we're all in this mess together, whether we deserve it or not, whoever we voted for, whatever we voted against. In 6 weeks the FO process begins in earnest.
Everything is on the line, nothing is safe. The preliminary appeasement process is well under way, no politician is safe and no principle stands above compromise.
We Were Warned.

(17,125 posts)and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act? I don't know all the implications, but that might have reversed the gerrymandering and voter purges that cost us the election.
It's impossible to articulate the depth of the hatred that exists among Arizona citizens who supported and elected Sinema. People who turned their lives and bank accounts upside down to get her that position couldn't even get her to return their phone calls after a certain point.

(17,125 posts)Investigative journalists have made valorous attempts to figure out what is the actual deal with her, why she reinvents herself every few years, how it was even possible that she "forgot" that she came out as bisexual, how she could promise in ads to fight for lower drug prices and then take large sums of money from Big Pharma to forget all of those promises, and so many other bizarre psychiatric puzzles.
But in spite of all that journalism, the puzzle remains... One day we will have the answers that we deserve.

(26,772 posts)Do not post disrespectful nicknames, insults, or highly inflammatory attacks against any Democratic public figures. Do not post anything that could be construed as bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for any Democratic general election candidate, and do not compare any Democratic general election candidate unfavorably to their general election opponent(s).
Why we have this rule: Our forum members support and admire a wide variety of Democratic politicians and public figures. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but our members don't expect to see Democrats viciously denigrated on this website. This rule also applies to Independents who align themselves with Democrats (eg: Bernie Sanders).
I welcome you to alert on my post. Oh, and welcome to DU.

(3,250 posts)word when TSF's administration doles out its doses of misery due to incompetency -- and tariffs hit. I see a year or so of increasing illness, rising prices, more violence, business failures, increased pollution and a government incapable of coping adequately. States with competent governors will be better off than ones that don't.
What's disgusting is that we're stuck on the stinking, sinking ship with the Repug fools. Dems must do a better job of strategizing and stop playing the nice guys. We tend to bring cotton swabs to knife fights.
