For Trump, the former Fox News personality checks two boxes: She's both a television personality and someone with direct ties to his immediate family.

President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that he would nominate former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle and his longtime billionaire friend Tom Barrack to be ambassadors to Greece and Turkey, respectively. ... In a separate post announcing his selection of her for ambassador to Greece, Trump referred to Guilfoyle, who announced in 2022 that she was engaged to his son Donald Trump Jr., as a yearslong close friend and ally.
Im mindful of the latest reporting suggesting that Guilfoyle might no longer be engaged to the president-elects oldest son, but I neither know nor care about their personal lives.
What I do care about is the frequency with which Trump chooses people of dubious qualifications for prominent governmental posts based on their closeness to members of his family. The growing list now includes:
Charles Kushner, Ivanka Trumps father-in-law, whom the president-elect intends to nominate as the next U.S. ambassador to France.
Massad Boulos, Tiffany Trumps father-in-law, whom the president-elect tapped to serve as a senior White House adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
Adam Boehler, Jared Kushners college roommate, whom the president-elect tapped to serve as the special U.S. envoy for hostage affairs.
And we can now add Guilfoyle, who was apparently close to Donald Trump Jr., to the mix.
The former Fox News personality, who does not appear to have any background in diplomacy, will require Senate confirmation. Watch this space.

(3,413 posts)That said, Trump's ambassador to Greece first term was a career diplomat and State Department normie. This one is obviously a no account know-nothing, so that's really par for the second term course.

(95,042 posts)It's not what you know, its who you know. Who needs a merit based exam for civil service, when there are plenty of cousins and frat-bros who barely made it thru college in need of a sinecure? Who needs experience of any kind to be an ambassador when theres a dumped mistress who needs placating? Why pretend to care about our oldest ally when theres a felonious father in law who needs to meet some new marks?
Charles Pierce has long called Trump El Caudillo del Mar A Lago. How long before he awards himself some shiny medals to wear?

(1,627 posts)and on the subject of physical beauty, Kimberly needs work. She needs to loose that harsh makeup, cut her hair and get a facelift. In short, she needs a makeover. She looks like an old hooker or madame. Send her to the Makeover Guy on Youtube. He'll fix her up.

(3,250 posts)Donald Trump Jr.s long-suffering fiancé Kimberly Guilfoyle could have a diplomatic incident on her manicured hands before she is even confirmed as ambassador to Greece.
Guilfoyles comments on a 2015 episode of Fox News The Five have resurfaced, in which she called Greek citizens freeloaders and suggested they relied too much on the government.
The remarks, reported by Media Matters senior fellow Matthew Getz, followed news that the country rejected a debt bailout package from the European Union.
In a rant directed at the Greeks, Guilfoyle told them that they need to suck it up and work more.
