The US military has carried out extensive airstrikes in Syria since the Assad regime collapsed over the weekend, and it's not the only country on the hunt for targets in this uncertain moment.
American, Israeli, and Turkish forces have all been involved in bombing targets across Syria over the past few days in actions said to be in support of their respective national security interests.
For the US, this means continuing to go after the Islamic State, as it has done for years, but with an intensity to keep the group at bay. The Biden administration has stated that this mission will continue despite uncertainty about the future of Syria's leadership.
The US has repeatedly said that it is committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS. "We don't want to give ISIS an opportunity to exploit what's going on," White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday, adding, "They love nothing more than ungoverned space."

(380 posts)What assets do we have in Syria? this is just more softening of the ground for Israeli occupation. Wait for it. The PNAC wet dream comes to a successful end.

(35,222 posts)We're NOT targeting ISIL? We don't have "assets" in Syria? We support the Kurds that hold the NE of the country across the Eurphrates - they're our "assets".
R.e. an Israeli Occupation of Syria: that's absurd. Ridiculous.

(1,982 posts)A clean break from Oslo/Peace, combined with going on the offensive in the region. A key part of the plan was removing Saddam and weakening and even "rolling back" Syria. The goals were to preserve access to oil and helping Israel rid itself of the "Palestinian problem". So here we are.
There is nothing left now to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. The West won't do it as we've seen.
And Syria and its poor people? They can kiss their current state goodbye, it will be balkanized, divided among "greater powers" and its resources plundered. What is going on now is to ensure that it will never, ever be able to defend itself again or present any military threat to hold Israel's expansionism and brutality towards Palestinians in check.

(11,250 posts)Its when ISIS-affiliated rebels topple the most brutal dictator in all of Middle East, ending a 12 year old civil war in Syria, and that dictator flees to Russia while Israel destroys his entire army which Iran no longer finances.
Pay attention now, this is what is called both genocide and ethnic cleansing, and Israel is at fault, naturally.
Nothing is too ridiculous as long as some people get to scream genocide! and Israel in the same sentence

I said no such thing and you know it.
Why do you continue to twist my words into some absurd, nonsensical accusation having no relation to what I actually said??
Some self-reflection might be in order, though long overdue.
Wish you good luck with that! Too-da-loo!

(12,899 posts)this opinion is obviously based in his Islamophobia. Western media is freely moving about Damascus showing people celebrating and flashing peace signs everywhere.
The US and particularly Israel need to be very careful not to stir up hatred against either, otherwise we may end up with another Islamic state hating us.
