Trump Administration Prepares To Roll Back Immigration Protections For Migrants In Protected Areas
According to new reporting from NBC News, the Trump Administration is preparing to roll back longstanding immigration policy that restricts the ability of ICE Agents to detain undocumented migrants in sensitive areas. These areas include at or near hospitals, schools, and places of worship. The areas further include events like weddings and funerals.
As it currently stands, ICE agents would need to get approval from supervisors to be able to conduct an arrest of an individual at these sensitive areas, and there are limited exceptions for when such an arrest can actually occur. These exceptions include possible terror threats or other threats to national security.
In an effort to streamline his mass deportation policy, Trump is expected to roll back this policy, allowing a free for all deportation policy for ICE agents. In the event the policy is rescinded, agents would no longer need supervisor approval to conduct arrests in these sensitive areas.
Donald Trump's mass deportation policy has drawn scrutiny from many city and state officials around the nation, with several stating that they will not comply with the mass deportation effort.
