FL Woman charged with threatening insurance company... $100k bail

This is why a class war is coming

https://www.wfla.com/news/polk-county/lakeland-woman-threatens-insurance-company-says-delay-deny-depose-police/

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A Lakeland woman was charged Tuesday after police said she ended a call to an insurance company with the words, “Delay, Deny, Depose.”

In an arrest affidavit, the Lakeland Police Department said officers were contacted by the FBI on Tuesday, Dec. 10 regarding an alleged threat made over the phone.

Briana Boston, 42, had reportedly placed a call to BlueCross BlueShield regarding recent medical insurance claims she was denied.

Boston reportedly told detectives she used the phrase “because it’s what is in the news right now,” and that she had learned of the phrase due to the UnitedHealthcare homicide.

However, Boston added that she does not own any firearms and “was not a danger to anyone,” police said.

Police and the judge should have been reminded that “Deny, delay, depose” is a term coined by the insurance execs.

That is certainly not an explicit threat of assassination. At best it's an inference given current events. Given the context of her previous reference to "Delay, Deny, Depose", I'd say she was at most threatening a law suit.

And federal laws like ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) made it almost impossible to file a civil suit against an HMO insurance company for a denial of treatment. Our elected representatives have been bought out by the insurance industry.

She didn't threaten anyone.
Unless Florida has changed their laws (and I'm sure they haven't), she was just being a smart alec.

Luigi is no hero!
But this woman sorta is!
She didn't break a single law.

OTOH: I'm pretty sure charges will be dropped unless there is more to this story. (I didn't click the link)
Now if she threatened to kill them, then that's a different story. I guess she deserves a day in the pokey.
Even if she verbally threatened to kill them, I'm pretty sure charges will be dropped and she will be credited with time served.

Her bail is $10,000 (10% of 100,000) If she hasn't posted bail, someone should crowd fund it. It's a worthy cause. Or maybe a lawyer has seen the case and will take it pro-bono.

In the end, the charges will be dropped.

Their bullshit headline made to mislead people into thinking "all she said" rather than what the ins co, police, etc considered the actual threat, in context.

Because we all clicked on it, thinking that very thing. It's all about the clicks, the traffic, the ad penetration.

Considering the current situation, it’s understandable that people who work in the health insurance industry are feeling uneasy. However, anyone who feels threatened by a, IMHO, benign statement spoken out of frustration and disappointment, should change jobs or move to HappyLand.

Unfortunately, this type of overreaction will become the norm for the foreseeable future. 😢

of pregnant people who need REAL medical care to save their lives when pregnancies go bad but legislators say 'tough shit' and make it legal for vigilantes to get paid for ratting out women who get needed care and the doctors who provide it.

Peculiar that one kind of benign comment is taken as a threat but legislative actions to empower vigilantes to cash in on people who desperately seek care to save their lives is supported by some states. But then, most top level health insurance people are probably male, while damned few people who suffer life-threatening conditions in pregnancy are male.

Yeah, it's also part of a certain cultural mindset. Some pigs are more equal than others.

Even though she might get the case tossed, for the fascists it's about the harassment and misery they can put you through during the whole time. We need to be ready to survive it because the repression is coming. American civil liberties like the exercise of free speech to criticize officials, to gather in groups to protest, to have freedom of movement etc. will be attacked. These are 3 main areas that authoritarian governments act on quickly.

You already see things like the Nancy Mace incident in order to try and "get" that activist. Expect Patel or whoever to turn the FBI into a "Red Squad" on steroids.
