Luigi Mangione was charged with murder - then donations started pouring in

By Joseph Ax, Rich McKay and Brad Brooks

NEW YORK (Reuters) - In the days since Luigi Mangione was charged with murder for gunning down a top health insurance executive, more than a thousand donations have poured into an online fundraiser for his legal defense, with messages supporting him and even celebrating the crime.

-snip-

Mangione has been charged with murder for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a father of two, in a brazen shooting on Dec. 4 outside a Manhattan hotel before an industry conference, setting off a five-day manhunt for the masked assailant.

The crime he is accused of has been broadly condemned, but the Ivy League educated, photogenic 26-year-old has become an unsettling mixture of folk hero, celebrity, and online crush in certain circles. His support has only seemingly intensified since his arrest on Monday.

Most of the messages on the crowd-sourced fundraising site GiveSendGo reflect a deep frustration shared by many Americans over the U.S. healthcare system - where some treatments and reimbursements can be denied to patients depending on their insurance coverage - as well as broader anger over rising income inequality and soaring executive pay.

MSM seems to focus on the murder of the CEO, and seems to be burying Luigi's message of concern of health care with whatever quirky and distracting info they can find on him.

The masses across this nation are tired of being lied to, manipulated and used as cogs in corporate machines. A nonstop barrage of ads are blasted at people to foster discontent, dissatisfaction, fear, and false hope within them to prod them into buying more stuff than they need.

It appears that many among the huddled masses across the nation are tired of their suffering and of being treated like idiots by the manipulative and greedy powers that have melded themselves into the framework of this country.

a weapon or a gun, and shoot the insurance guy. I have always said, and I believe it, that once you have a back injury, you'll always have a back injury. Sometimes it subsides to pretty well no pain, but then it comes back again to haunt you. Regardless if you're active or not. Sometimes being active causes the back pain to reoccur. Maybe just bending over to pick up a piece of trash off the floor causes your back to go out. Millions of reasons why a back goes out.

I just hope that none of you suffer from back pain. It stays w/ you forever. I have a lifetime supply of Ibuprofen. Always will too.

My other half told co-members of a jury, that the guy that who was the plaintiff in a court case that they were judging on, for damages,
and claimed that he suffered from a 'back injury'...he was sitting STILL for the entire time.

You don't sit still the entire time. We all know how uncomfortable courtrooms are. You would be squirming around, etc., trying to get comfortable. If you suffer from back injury, you can tell...very easily.

him other than satisfy a blood lust of him, to 'get somebody'.

When I suffered my first serious outage of my bad, I was in bed for six solid weeks. Couldn't even sit up in bed, and if I did try and sit up finally, I would take six ibuprofens first, icepack my back for 30 minutes or so prior to trying to sit up in bed (after ringing a cowbell for one of my roommates to bring me more ice packs), and then finally try and sit up in bed.

That was hell. I hope never again.

I still didn't want to shoot someone. I just wanted the back pain/back issue to go away. And what it did, during that time too, that really nice and still stands out in my mind? The numerous people helped me out, my female boss struggling to move six boxes of my paper reports into her office to review during my absence, people visiting me (not very many thank goodness, it was too hard for me to really 'visit them').

No one is promoting mayhem. Also prayers for God's comfort for Mr. Thompson's loved ones, including his pets if he had any.

Please tell what you think George Washington should have done instead of his decisions that lead to the American Revolutionary War.

Where Washington was shooting citizens in the back as they walked down the street. And yes, there are lots of people celebrating it.

Literally nothing about that is similar to this.

A man shooting a citizen in the back while he's going about his business vs the US government putting down a rebellion.
