Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert employed a new tactic during a town hall on Wednesday night to avoid being grilled by her constituents on President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s gutting of the federal government.
Boebert, 38, stuck to the party line, branding Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency handling of highly sensitive information as “careful and responsible.”
The congresswoman held a telephone town hall on Wednesday to discuss her work in the state’s 4th district and answer live and submitted questions from her constituents.
In recent weeks, Republican town hall meetings have descended into chaos, with angry citizens displaying their outrage at the effects of Trump and Musk’s cuts. The chaos reached the point where party leadership was forced to encourage GOP lawmakers not to hold meetings in their districts.

So she sets up her town hall where her constituents could not ask follow-up questions or speak out of turn.

(2,512 posts)Wittman has employed the phony “telephone town hall” since early 2011. A couple of times a month he ventures into the district ( 2-hr drive from DC) where he stops very briefly at a cafe or school or office for a photo op which he splashes all over his Facebook page to leave the impression that he’s all over the district. He’s not.
He comes to the district for local Republican meetings where his attendance is not announced until the last minute.
Most of his trips out of DC are all-expense paid fancy fishing trips, hosted by defense contractors.
His staff shows up at his district offices to meet with constituents but that’s about to stop since few weeks ago when the staff was overrun by literally hundreds of pissed-off constituents demand that Wittman show up. His response? He held a “tv call-in town hall,” where the questions were screened and callers with tough questions were cut off.

(15,058 posts)Insulated by the very fact it's a party line type phone call. Questions screened.
Democrats also do telephone town halls and I wish they wouldn't. Sure, it's a lot more effort to arrange for a venue and actually show up and spend a whole evening conducting it, but with a real town hall you get to talk to constituents face to face. Something repubs are finding very uncomfortable right about now.
