And now we enter the Great Diminishing
Self-inflicted, yet spreading world-wide

Driven in turn by an intentional dismantling
Of objectivity, thought, reason, and empathy

Taking apart institutions assembled over centuries
Eliminating compassion at whatever cost

Leaving those with less without protections
And shoving those with some into that same hole

The current trajectory is now clear
Yet the last remaining variable is time

How quickly does the light flicker and die
How tolerant are we of the darkness
