Teddy Kennedy sans Chappiquidick or however the hell you spell it. Bernie has it, but he's too old. We know MAGA's weaknesses, or some of them--their racism and their misogyny--so we should keep them in mind. For instance, we've had two magnificent candidates for president, both of them defeated (I know; Hillary won the popular vote) and both of them women. We need MAGAs to see the light (which Trump is helping us do by his blatant mishandling of everything), so we need to ease them out of the cult.
It goes against all I believe in, but I think Democrats need to forget trying to elect a woman president for the time being. The misogyny even among some Democrats is deep.
Because of MAGA's racism, our spokesman should be white. Again, deplorable.
I can't think of anything else that will make them listen to us.

(7,089 posts)How about we try to engage those voters. Many do not think government works for them. Probably an easier task than trying to convince MAGATs to vote for democrats.

(18,480 posts)that's why they didn't show up.
Why the F*CK did they not want to show up for Harris?
The answer is staring you in the face. Non white. Non male. Not necessarily in that order. And to be honest, didn't peg the charisma meter like Obama did. That charisma is the ONLY way he got elected twice. (along with being competent, one would hope - but from this last election it's pretty clear that competence isn't a big factor for most voters.)

(7,089 posts)Many of those people have never voted. They don't think government works for them. It's been said that Texas is not red state, it's a non voting state.
Same can be said for many other states. Employ the strategy Stacy Abrams employed in GA. It can be replicated.

(18,480 posts)His bio is pretty strong.
When I've heard clips of him I thought he was well-spoken.
At this point as long as his policies would be reasonably standard Dem, I'd be thrilled if he were the guy. Now is not the time to quibble over the details.

(5,032 posts)We have to win, and we're going to have to be ruthless. We know those republican bottom-feeders will never vote for a gay man.

(12,262 posts)We need to nominate someone that will get people out to vote. I don't know that Pete's the answer, but I don't know that he isn't.

(20,061 posts)I never thought my gay Congresswoman (Tammy Baldwin) would win a statewide race for Senate. But she is on her 3rd term as a US Senator.
People all over Wisconsin know she is honest, she is intelligent, and she cares about the state. And they know she is gay and they voted for her over a straight Republican white male 3 times so far.

(4,177 posts)I also like Conor Lamb. I want to Lamb make a presidential run.
I thought Jason Crow came across very well in his examination of Tulsi Gabbard the other day.
Have Beto write speeches for Lamb and Crow.

(5,032 posts)I was trying to think of his name but couldn't.
He also has that Kennedyesque aura that seems to impress the mouth-breathers.

(27,325 posts)They are horrible at messaging.
The former U.S. ambassador to Denmark was on Rachel saying that there should be outrage by Americans when our VP just said that Denmark has not been a reliable partner.
Soldiers from Denmark died fighting in Iraq & Afghanistan and I haven’t heard one Congressional Democrats say what the former ambassador said.
Also, Magats are still talking about Hillary’s emails but I guess SignalGate is over.

(16,797 posts)If the GOP self-destructs, and that's not a given, then there will be plenty of crossovers. In that scenario, congress people are between supporting the loss of vital services and the loss of Elon's money (or it going to some even worse primary contender)
And IANAL, but aren't primaries entirely at party discretion? I recall no legal requirement. (Correct my if I am wrong) so the orange party owner can just pick and choose? He did stack it with sycophants.
But a spokesperson does not have to be a candidate, so Bernie is fine if he doesn't have to travel like a candidate (and is doing now out of devotion to his principles) and so are previous office holders, remarkable for their silence.
Bernie and AOC and Tim Walz are leading the way, IMO, with their public appearances.
I like Rev. Senator Warnock as a spokesperson in the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, and he is senior pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr.'s former congregation.
His senate colleague, Jon Ossoff, is raising his voice and profile, with a re-election battle coming soon.
