ME-GOV: Shenna Bellows (D) announces run for Maine governor

AUGUSTA, Maine (WGME) -- Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has announced she will run for governor in 2026.

She is kicking off her campaign on Wednesday (March 26) with two events. The first was in Hancock and the second will be in Augusta at 12:30 p.m.

The Democrat made national headlines when she moved to keep then-former President Donald Trump off the Republican Party's primary ballot due to his role in the riot on Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol.

According to her campaign, Bellows ran for state Senate in 2016 with a campaign focused on lowering property taxes. She was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.
