Bernie Sanders - From the Senate Floor: Where do we go from here?

Below is from the transcript starting at 16 minutes ... click on more in the description, then "show transcript"

"16:01
need mr president we don't talk about it
16:03
too much maybe we
16:06
should but there are three Wall Street
16:09
firms Black Rockck Vanguard and State
16:12
Street that
16:14
combined are the major stockholders in
16:18
95% of our corporations got that three
16:22
Wall Street firms three are the major
16:26
stockholders in 95% of American
16:31
corporations so Mr president that is one
16:34
America people on top doing phenomenally
16:37
well not only do they have economic
16:41
power they have enormous political
16:44
power that's what's going on there they
16:47
live like kings that's one America but
16:50
there is another America
16:53
and in that other America 60%
16:58
60% of our people are living paycheck to
17:02
paycheck"

2. A little more "and on Mr Musk, I must thank him, because he has made it very clear we are living in an oligarchic ..."
Sat Mar 29, 2025, 12:52 AM
Saturday

Sanders had made this point before, equating addition to drugs, alcohol etc with addiction to money/power.

"25:40
so I think the bottom line of all this
25:42
the American people I think are catching
25:44
on and Mr musk I must thank him because
25:47
he has made it very
25:49
clear we are living in an oligarchic
25:52
form of society if anybody out there
25:54
thinks that Mr musk is running around
25:56
out of the goodness of his heart trying
25:59
to make our government more efficient
26:02
you have not a clue as to what is going
26:04
on
26:06
what these guys want to do is destroy
26:08
virtually every federal
26:10
program that impacts the well-being of
26:13
working people social security Medicare
26:16
postal service public education you name
26:19
it so they can get huge tax breaks for
26:22
the rich and eventually make government
26:25
so inefficient that they will have the
26:28
ability as large corporations to come in
26:30
and privatize everything that is going
26:33
on
26:35
so Mr president this is a pivotal moment
26:38
in American history and I sense that the
26:42
American people have had it up to here
26:45
they are prepared to fight back they do
26:49
not want a government run by
26:51
billionaires who have it all whose greed
26:54
is
26:55
uncontrollable you know we have in
26:58
Vermont and I think all over this
26:59
country serious problem with addiction
27:02
with drugs people drinking too much
27:05
alcohol people smoking too many
27:07
cigarettes but the worst form of
27:09
addiction that this country now
27:12
faces is the
27:14
greed of the
27:16
oligarchy you might think that if you
27:18
had 10 20 billion dollars it would be
27:21
enough you know kind of enough to let
27:24
your family live for the next 20
27:26
generations but it's not for whatever
27:29
reason whatever compulsive reason they
27:31
have these guys want more and more and
27:34
more and they are prepared to destroy
27:38
social security
27:39
Medicare nutrition programs for hungry
27:42
people in order to get even more that to
27:46
me is disgusting so Mr president we are
27:49
at a pivotal moment in American history..."

And we all pay for that greed; some with their lives.

Bernie is a Buddha committed to the well-being and liberation of all. 🪷

In a world gone out of its mind.

...isn't recognizing the video either here or at YouTube. I do have an older version (9.3.0.1) due to an older OS and browser, but VDH still seems to be working just fine otherwise. I'd like to keep this one for offline storage if possible. TIA.

7. Thanks, I may need to take this to Computer Help/Support.

I think YouTube just made another one of their changes that breaks VDH until the next release. It's happened before.

9. I am aware of a command line tool

Look up "ytdl" on the internet.

I used to use an online version that you fed the video URL and it produces a linked video to download. Not sure if any of these are still around. I can check. Was busy today.

Browser extensions vary.

No guarantees, but others on computer help may be video fans.

Good luck.

...a Linux box of mine (youtube-dl and yt-dlp). Unfortunately, one of them appears to be broken (library dependency problems), the other simply refuses to download, and it does indeed look like the reason is that YouTube just made some major changes. Each time they do that, all the download software seems to break, sometimes for weeks or months. I'm going to check the Video DownloadHelper forums next.

8. In today's society Bernie's voice needs to be heard.

I'll be the first to admit, I used to worry about getting my car washed & frivolous things like that. no More. Now I have to pinch my pennies and it's getting worse for me so I can imanginge how it's getting for other people and It has to change. I now feel guilry that I could afford some of the finer things in life as others suffered. I don't believe any of us should suffer. I hope I didn't sound privilighed in this post because I did not mean to, I just have a better understanding of what's going on.

I hope this post makes sense. I'm trying.

14. Hope you are doing better today ...

in my opinion, it is always good to remind ourselves how lucky we are in comparison to others.

That being said we can do better as a country for all of us. If our country wants to compete with other nations we need to be healthy and educated, something the current administration fails to grasp.

Be well!

It astounds me that this OP has so few views and recs. I hope that my rec will bring it to a few more people's ears. It was one of his best speeches on the floor of the Senate.
