Its hard to imagine how anyone would vote for him.
Its hard to imagine how anyone would marry him.
He's hostile and abrasive. He is blunt and arrogant when talking to foreign dignitaries. Does he really think that Greenland will be bullied into subservience? He is as bad as TSF.
When I look at him all I see is cruelty.

TSF is a horrible president. JD Vance would be at least as horrible.

(128,899 posts)vary considerably with his circumstances. His current persona is apparently that of Trump's enforcer, as he seems to be trying to reinforce his asshole bona fides to establish that he's just as mean and soulless as his boss. Of course, cosplaying an asshole to ingratiate himself with the Big Asshole means he is actually an asshole; he's just an asshole without any principles or purposes at all other than pure ambition. He is likely counting on the possibility that Satan will call Trump home before the end of his term, and he wants to establish himself as Powerful! and Mighty! so Trump's MAGA cult will accept him as the inevitable replacement in 2028. That will be a hard sell, since Vance lacks the evil but apparently compelling charisma that created the cult in the first place; nobody likes him. He's creepy and not good at demagoguery, and his fundamental phoniness oozes from every pore. I think that when Trump is finally out of the picture there will be a huge power struggle in the GOP, and Vance will lose.

(414 posts)I've said several times that he views Trump as his express ticket to the top. He sees Trump's age and ill health as clearly as we do. Think about it, 2 years ago, he was a political outsider, having never held elected office. Then he relentlessly kissed Trump's ass to get that Senate endorsement. Less than 2 years into his first term as an elected official, he kissed more ass to get tapped to be the VP candidate. He probably wants Trump to make it just past the mid point of the term so that it doesn't count as a full term for him. He would still be eligible for 2 full terms after finishing Trump's term.
He won't be worried much about selling it to MAGA at that point. He will be working for his handlers, people like Peter Thiel, Leonard Leo and the rest of the Oligarchs and Theocrats who want to remake American government in their ChristoFacist image.

(22,765 posts)Trumps running mate writes that its time to circle the wagons and load the muskets.
by Alex Shephard
The New republic, July 30, 2024
Donald Trump has been desperate lately to distance himself from Project 2025, the Heritage Foundations radical plan to remake the federal government under his presidency. I have no idea who is behind it, he said in early July about the plan, which would replace thousands of federal workers with partisan loyalists, ban abortion, and disband the Department of Education. A couple of weeks later, he said of the people behind Project 2025, They are extreme, theyre seriously extreme, but I dont know anything about it.
But between those two denials, on July 15, Trump made a decision that undercuts his claim to have no knowledge of Project 2025: He picked Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.
Vance has deep ties to the Heritage Foundation, and in particular to Kevin Roberts, who has been president of the right-wing think tank since 2021 and is the architect of Project 2025. Vance has praised Roberts for helping to turn the organization into the de facto institutional home of Trumpism and has endorsed elements of Project 2025. Vance is also the author of the foreword to Robertss upcoming book, Dawns Early Light, which The New Republic has obtained in full even though the books publisher, HarperCollinss Broadside Books, has apparently tried to suppress it amid the scrutiny of Project 2025 and Vances ties to Roberts.
The subtitle and cover of Robertss book were softened as scrutiny of the Trump campaigns ties to Project 2025 grew. The book, which is scheduled to be published on September 24, was originally announced with the subtitle Burning Down Washington to Save America and featured a match on the center of its cover. The subtitle is now Taking Back Washington to Save America, and the match is nowhere to be seen. Promotional language invoking conservatives on the warpath to burn down institutions like the FBI, the Department of Justice, and universities has also been removed or toned down, though it is still present in some sales pages.
But the inspiration for that extreme language can be found in Vances foreword, which ends with a call for followers to circle the wagons and load the muskets, and describes Robertss ideas as an essential weapon in the fights that lay [sic] ahead. (The New Republic downloaded Dawns Early Light earlier this month from NetGalley, which provides advance copies of books to reviewers and booksellers. Copies were removed from the platform earlier this month.)
SNIP...
Vances foreword is also, notably, a call for revolution. The old conservative movement argued if you just got government out of the way, natural forces would resolve problems, he writes. We are no longer in this situation and must take a different approach. That is where the muskets come in:
Continues...
