I’m getting tired of this talk about this psychopath running for a third term…he has managed once again to use his reality show skills to manipulate the media and sadly too many democrats to even engage in this nonsense discussion… he will be 81 by that time if he survives 4 more years of gluttony… and .. it is unconstitutional….so get a grip and avoid this issue ..don’t give him more air,…but do laugh at him..it’s what he hates the most. and let’s avoid the distractions and get on with protecting our democracy

(4,955 posts)But I would read his obituary with great delight.
And should he ever catch another virus, I'll be pulling for the virus. Imagine if COVID had done its job in October 2000. No Trump to vote for. No January 6. No central figure for MAGA to coalesce around. Infighting amongst Republicans to inherit MAGA. Biden would probably not have felt the need or urge to run. MAGA voters who don't get their candidate of choice refuse to vote at all. A Democratic candidate with a full election season thrashes DeSantis or Noem or Haley and we pick up both houses of Congress. That virus took so many good people. It just had to take one more that it didn't.

People need to keep in mind that he attempts to distract the public's attention. He has not made a single meaningful speech or had a "win" yet in his "first one hundred days." He isn't doing well in court cases. He is simply fronting for a group seeking to destroy democracy -- including the economy. And why? Though it will not change anything in their daily lives, they are excited to have a different sequence of digits in their accounts.
Keep your eyes on the prize.

Trump running for a third term will probably never happen, but there's nothing wrong with being proactive when it comes to how to respond to unconstitutional power grabs.

Or just laugh and move on.
I think about this every time I see a clip of Pammy Jo and MTG etc etc etc. spewing nonsense.
All of them.

(978 posts)unconstitutional, and guess what? They've gotten away with the vast majority of it due to how slow the system is to respond, the loyalty of the GOP, and years of successfully assaulting the fundamentals on which our democracy rests. So no, claiming that this is an impossibility and should be dismissed simply because it's unconstitutional is absurd at this point. If there's one thing the last decade has taught anyone, it should be that.

(33 posts)like a lame duck, and constantly f~~~ks up like a lame duck, and so so desperately doesn’t want to be treated like a lame duck, you got yourself a lame duck. Maybe the spineless republicans will take note and allow triage for our country.

(3,552 posts)George Lakoff's study of language and cognition show that only makes the outrageous words stick more deeply.
We need to treat all his outrages with the "Truth Sandwich" tactic. Say what the truth is, name the lie, then repeat the truth.
The 22nd Amendment says "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once." So Trump's weird claim that there are ways he could be reelected for a third term is just wishful thinking. Our Constitution protects us against anyone trying to illegally shoehorn himself into more than two terms.
If we don't push back, it becomes an inevitability in many minds. But if we just repeat what he says, it actively reinforces it. A little mocking of it can help our cause, as long as it's wrapped in a truth sandwich.
