It’s the opposite of what usually happens during economic turmoil, when people buy US debt because they think it’s the safest asset in the world.

The dollar usually rises during global economic turmoil, as part of a “flight to safety.” But the dollar is falling against Asian currencies, indicating the world no longer thinks the dollar or US bonds are safe.

As bond and currency markets show capital flight from the US—opposite of what usually happens in global economic turmoil—Wall St. brought these losses on themselves.
