BREAKING: Democratic governors boldly throw down the gauntlet to Donald Trump after he corruptly commands his MAGA Justice Department to gut climate laws at a state level.
This is how you stand up to this fascist administration...
"The federal government cannot unilaterally strip states’ independent constitutional authority," New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New Mexico Governor Michelle Luján Grisham said in a joint statement.
Hochul and Luján Grisham are co-chairs of the US Climate Alliance. Their statement was released on behalf of the coalition, which represents two dozen governors as well as "nearly 60 percent of the U.S. economy and 55 percent of the U.S. population."
"We are a nation of states — and laws — and we will not be deterred. We will keep advancing solutions to the climate crisis that safeguard Americans’ fundamental right to clean air and water, create good-paying jobs, grow the clean energy economy, and make our future healthier and safer," they stated.
The Trump executive order in question was handed down yesterday and ordered the Department of Justice to identify and dismantle state and local laws and regulations that supposedly hamper energy development.
It took special aim at any laws that are designed to fight combat change or greenhouse gas emissions.
In practice, of course, the order amounts to nothing more than a massive handout to the fossil fuel companies that helped put Trump back in the White House. Republicans still insist that climate change doesn't exist and so they're willing to destroy the planet in pursuit of greater corporate profits.
Thankfully for future generations, blue states are refusing to roll over. This statement from the governors is the opening salvo in what is certain to be a protracted and costly legal war but the stakes are too high to back down.

(38,248 posts)I am not very familiar with Occupy Democrats and would be interested to know if and how they are unreliable. Do you have any sources for that claim? I just saw their stuff on Facebook and do not know a lot about them.
I will read up.
