Blue Origin lands $2.8 billion contract with DOD
Blue Origin has scored a $2.8 billion contract from the Department of Defense for launch missions using its New Glenn rocket.
The Kent-based space company, which announced the deal Friday, will serve as one of the providers for missions that launch heavy satellites, like the National Reconnaissance Office’s bus-sized spy platforms, into orbit. These missions require high-performance launch systems.
Contracts were also awarded to SpaceX and United Launch Services.
The contract includes mission acceleration, fleet surveillance and special studies, among other things. The work will be done in Florida and California and is expected to be completed by April 2033.
