If anyone has shown a lack of respect it is Trump and his imbeciles, such as Vance calling Chinese peasants, and saying the Chinese people have been borrowing from USA (when the opposite is true). Trump's list of made up tariffs from other nations is beyond contempt.
Trump speaking down to and threatening other world leaders, and saying they would be kissing his ass, mocking them by saying “Please, Sir, make a deal. I’ll do anything. I’ll do anything, Sir,” and simply accusing other nations of bad faith for no reason and demanding money from them is deeply disrespectful and damaging to our global relationships.
I'm sorry Trump's delicate feelings are hurt because China stood up to him, but that is no way to determine economic policy. This isn't a game. No good will come from being the world's asshole.

This isn't a new thing. It's been the standard Party line for decades. Long before Trump came along with his destructive tariffs.
Now, this US-directed contempt isn't why Trump's doing what he's doing, but it should be at least acknowledged. The PRC has earned its disrespect, but like all honor-based societies, to show that disrespect is a provocation.
Heard a guy talking about his honor-culture-based father. He'd been talking to his father. His father said something incorrect. The son corrected him. Of course, that provoked an argument. Son toddled off and brought back written proof that he, the son, was correct. The father deftly said, basically, the son wasn't very smart, bringing proof of exactly what he, the father, had been saying all along. Dad claimed to have won the argument--and saved face, saved honor. Since nobody challenged him, that was the "constructed truth". Dad was correct the entire time. Just ignore the facts.
This kind of honor-based culture is widespread. Few countries got past it. It's survived in some communities in the US, but widely among the non-Western-educated in a lot of countries.
It's the PRC. Xi's still worse than Trump, domestic politics be damned.
