Trump addressed Saturdays mass shooting at Brown University in a manner that was very Trump-like.
Brown University, great school, really one of the greatest schools anywhere in the world, Trump said Sunday from the White House. Things can happen, so to the nine injured, get well fast. And to the families of those two who are no longer with us, I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America. Thank you very much. Its a very important thing to say. And we mean it.
Trump also mentioned the deadly attack in Australia on Sunday morning as well as the fatal attack on U.S. soldiers in Syria, saying he wanted to pay his respects to everybody.
On Saturday afternoon, a gunman opened fire in Brown Universitys engineering building, killing two people and injuring at least nine others. Police said a person of interest was in custody as of Sunday morning.

(66,704 posts)Trump, speaking at the White House Christmas reception, first praised Brown as a great school, really one of the greatest schools anywhere in the world.
But the president then said:
Things can happen, so to the nine injured, get well fast. And to the families of those two who are no longer with us, I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America. Thank you very much. Its a very important thing to say. And we mean it.
While Trump did send his deepest regards, the things can happen line still drew anger on social media.

It should also be pointed out that, when asked about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, he dismissed it with the response, "Things happen."
