I wrote awhile back about the general reluctance of many performers to get politically involved,
while (on the other hand) a 'select' few SEEMINGLY unlikely artists saw a Trump endorsement as some kind of cash cow,
in spite of the general outrage of their traditional fanbase. And that's still occurring.
But for those who THOUGHT to play it safe, Trump has made that difficult if not impossible, by politicizing entertainment itself.
By putting his malevolent thumb upon everything from movie production, programming, newscasts, late nite talk shows, performing arts, corporate buyouts, etc. - to national and international sporting organizations and major events.
Like the malignant cancer he is.
So now it's gotten so that who performs, where one performs, and for whom, amounts to an endorsement or ideological statement.
Imo, the price paid for timidity, indifference, and silence in the face of fascism.

(174,511 posts)This will *really* get more artists to want to perform at the already scorned and blacklisted Trump Kennedy Center.

The petty bitches in the Trump administration are smart that way.
I suspect that Chuck Redd's contract required him to appear at a venue called "The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts." Since such a named venue does not currently exist, how could he fulfill his contract obligations? Therefore, how is there a breach by him?

And there was a political comedy musical group from '81 - 2000 called The Capitol Steps. NPR would play one of their shows every so often.
So The Capitol Steps Riotiers is pretty damn funny in a snarky keep from sighing/crying way.
