You ever go somewhere like a waiting room, break room, hotel, hospital, restaurant, gym or anywhere else and you see Fox "News" or Newsmax on TV?
I say it's time to fight back against it!
Here are some ways you can help:
1. This works especially well for waiting rooms. Ask the person at the desk politely to change the channel to something else like PBS.
2. Especially if you're alone in the room you can control the TV yourself with a universal remote or your phone. Then you can change the station yourself. I would also recommend deleting Fox, Newsmax, OAN or any other propaganda stations from the channel list or setting up parental control.
For using your phone to control any TV you can use a USB-C IR blaster or your phone may have a built in IR blaster. Then use a universal remote app and control the TV that way or for some smart TVs you may be able to download the app for the brand of TVs and connect that way to control the TV. Or if you're able to physically reach the TV or cable box you can control it using the buttons on the TV.
3. Leave 1 star reviews for businesses that have Fox News on in the TV or if they give you a survey be sure to mention that you didn't like that they were playing Fox on the TV.

(41 posts)I really respect your username and the fact that you've been doing it so long!
Just one very minor note: For Amazon URLs strictly speaking you only need the /dp/ID part of the URL but sometimes I keep the title in-case the product changes people can see it changed. So the URL would become: https://www.amazon.com/Smartphone-Controller-Phone-Universal-Conditioner/dp/B07F7GPNF3/ the rest of the stuff in the URL is related to tracking.

(41 posts)Can you clarify what you're talking about? That device is for TVs controlled by IR. Most TVs have an IR receiver and can be controlled that way. For TVs controlled with Bluetooth you can likely just directly use almost any smartphone and connect that way. No need to buy anything since almost all smartphones have Bluetooth. By "Bluetooth devices" do you mean TVs controlled with Bluetooth or something else?

It will, however, turn them off.

(41 posts)As long as the cable box either has physical buttons or is controllable via IR or Bluetooth you should be able to change the station (unless they have it locked down somehow)

So I just use it to turn the tv off if I can't change the channel

(27,468 posts)The Wendy's restaurant had Fox on at lunchtime when I came in. I asked a cashier if they could please change the channel to CNN or something. The harried cashier just handed me the remote and said "Do it." So I went to the TV, changed it to (the chanel formerly known as) MSNBC, found the menu for parental controls, and locked out Fox Nooze AND Fox Business, then set a key to lock the menu, so they couldn't restore Fox. Then I gave the remote back to the cashier, with my smiling thanks!
It felt really good, striking a blow for democracy!

(93,126 posts)But if you are in the situation ask to turn to local news or some sports game.
Or ask if it's possible to just play music and turn the TV off.
I was recently in a waiting area while my car was being serviced and they already had the local news on. But most people were focused on their own devices.

(1,967 posts)Now it's GSN, ESPN, HGTV, etc. It's been a lot nicer.
FoxNewsSucks
(11,490 posts)it's a lot less prevalent.
I'd guess that Fecesbook, Twitter etc are much better ways for them to catapult the propaganda now

(65,704 posts)Regardless of the channel change, it's the same bullshit 20 minutes of ads* per hour.
I mean, if you're going to fuck with someone else's property, go all in and do it properly. Fuck this "lesser evil" shit.
*Except PBS, I guess. I assume that they're largely still "ad free" programming. Sponsored, but "ad free" that is.
