It's time to regulate ICE.

I started this post wondering if, in lieu of the Alex Pretti execution was it possible that the ICE mask gear is obstructing the agents' view and adding to the "misjudgments" that seems to be increasing?

I thought it would be a factor because confirmation is coming in that an agent removed the gun from Alex's waistband and seconds later, they shot Alex in the back with multiple gunshots. So I am expecting that today we're going to hear all about how it was an accidental misunderstanding. But, doesn't the mask gear that ICE wear possibly obstruct their vision? At least their peripheral vision? There is no conformity in what they wear, so it's possible they are creating their own "fog of war" situation.

And then I realized that ICE procedures really needs to face a major audit. Because their next move is to claim that they feared for their lives, because legally-carrying civilians can say the same thing about them.

We can go on and on about what's wrong with ICE. Like, there is no professionalism among the ICE agents. They are not properly vetted or trained. They are just grabbing people out of cars if they look dark-skinned, (Thanks for nothing Kavanaugh). And the madman in the Oval Office with his own shotgun splatter of political posts has encouraged the racial division in this country as well as encouraged his police force to be cruel and unyielding.

And the Congress, WTF are they doing? They are condoning this at every turn.

So, sorry, but there is a lot of reflection and changes that need to made with ICE. It was an agency that was hastily put together after 9/11 and it never got proper scrutiny. And progressives might have foreseen how it could be abused by a megalomaniac president, but no one else did. Now that we can clearly see the problems, like missions that have a political motive (Trump targeted a state with one of the lowest immigrant populations!) and how our gun laws are adding to the unacceptable situation, it's time that we put ICE under the micro-scope and demand a higher quality of recruit and a more restricted mission statement just to begin with.

7. Exactly. ICE sees a victim they don't like and (absent provocation) attacks the victim.

If, in its attack on the innocent victim, ICE discovers a firearm, ICE will summarily execute the victim.

This is straight out of the fascist playbook.

9. I also think there is a financial incentive to kill people and provide video receiving national attention.

The brutal videos send a message to all Americans.
Cross us and we will kill you.

Trump will reward that message.

3. If by "regulate" you meant "defund and disband", I'd agree

Sorry, ICE needs to go. I've seen enough. This is completely unacceptable. The ICE agency doesn't serve the people and must be abolished. No more excuses.

5. I don't expect Republicans to do anything constructive wrt regulation

Republicans largely support what ICE does, spreading and consuming vast quantities of insane propaganda. It would be very interesting if they went along with any meaningful regulatory change affecting ICE, but I wouldn't trust it at all. Meanwhile there's a small group of Dems who trip over their dicks to play pointlessly at "bipartisanship", who'd bend over backwards to lend credibility to whatever weak sauce they shoehorn into the ICE rules & procedures. The DHS declares these agents are completely unaccountable for actual violations of actual law, there won't be so much as a nasty memo for violating an internal protocol.

I agree Democrats will need to control congress before the agency can be given its well-deserved place in the budgetary dustbin. There's little reason for trying to apply moderating regulation to slather a veneer of respectability over the stinking turd. Rather, stand up for the just dissolution of a murderous Gestapo paramilitary. Dems should avoid touching ICE with a 10-foot pole.
