Fettermanâs poll numbers are now in Sinema territory: sunk too deep with his party to win a primary, artificially inflated by Republicans whoâd never actually vote for him, trapped in a negative-partisanship era that makes an independent bid implausible. His seat is up in 2028.

(17,374 posts)He did a few town halls in R districts and talked a good game, but at heart, he's a centrist.
The person to keep an eye on is Congressman Brendan Boyle, of NE Phila. He's the current minority chair/top D, on the House Ways and Means committee. He's a smart policy wonk like Sen Casey and is a clear and concise speaker. He knows his history, too. Boyle has very carefully built and mapped out his political career, one step at a time up the political ladder similarly to Shapiro.
Boyle's a guest with O'Donnell a lot if you've never seen him.

(17,374 posts)The Senate is a big club where personal relationships matter. Fetterman has always struck me as a loner marching to his own drummer. Now he's in an organization that requires otherwise to have an impact. My sense is he's not really happy being a senator or in the senate.
He was like that as LtGov, too, doing his own thing, mostly related to his role on the state pardons board, and not much time presiding over the state legilature.

He was against gun violence then.

(23,592 posts)Because he wants to parlay that into endless ass kissing for himself with way Manchin and Sinema did when they held the power to sink Democratic bills.
Or he may just switch to rethug.
Either way we as a party need to seriously look at how people like Sinema and Fetterman as slipping past the primary process and figure out how to stop it.
