The GOP problem with a political cult

The Republicans are lamenting the fact that their voters will not come out during the mid-terms without Trump's name on the ballot. That is a result of creating a political cult.

Their problem is worse than that. The Trump voters in 2024 didn't even vote down ballot with the ballot right in front of them.

The evidence of this is that in the 6 swing states in which there was a hotly contested, statewide election on the same ballot, the Republicans won just one of them and by less votes than Trump won the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Nevada Senate, Arizona Senate, Wisconsin Senate, Michigan Seante and North Carolina Governor all went to the Democratic candidate, even though Trump won the state.

If that's what happened down ballot with Trump on the ballot, at a time when he was at his most popular, what can we expect in 2026 when Trump is at his least popular and his name is not on the ballot.

That's the downside for a political party built around a cult of personality.
