Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) said the quiet part out loud. Gonzales should not resign, he argued, because doing so would be “the stupidest thing he could ever do” given the razor-thin GOP majority.

When reporters asked whether some matters should be bigger than politics, Nehls didn’t hedge.

“No,” he said. “Not up here, not the way we do what we do in the House.”
