Family Trump voters

A first cousin died three days ago ,COPD because how dare those liberals tell me my cigarettes are bad.
Anyway after years of low wage work poor Tony passed and his widow has had to start a gofundme to pay for his cremation. I thought SS kicked in some as I remember it used to be around $1300.
Times have changed , it's now a big $255. Not enough to pay for the food for after the funeral .
I'm absolutely sure both he and his wife voted for Trump
Well, family and all so m I donated $100. On a $2300 bill. The sad thing is they always vote against their own self interest.

Just found about this. Their goal is to provide affordable cremation without preying on people like funeral homes.

Social Security’s death benefit has been $255 since 1954. Some senators want to change that
When a Social Security beneficiary dies, their loved ones may qualify for a one-time $255 lump-sum death payment.

Yet that amount has not changed in 70 years — since 1954 — while inflation has pushed the costs for funerals higher.

On Wednesday, Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., introduced a new bill, the Social Security Survivor Benefits Equity Act, to raise the lump-sum death benefit to $2,900 to reflect today’s cost of living.

When my father died, I think it ended up being around $1K, which covered the cremation; and his Military burial at sea was free once the cremains were sent to the nearest base mortuary.

We prepaid our funeral expenses in February of 2024, including cremation. For the 2 of us, the bill was less than $10,000.

People keep smoking because it is an addiction that is harder to kick than heroin. I and many of us know that because once upon a time, smoking was considered cool and we did it too. I'm an educated woman and it took me 25 years to successfully quit cigarettes. They can blame it on us liberals all they want, but it won't change the grip their cigarettes have on them.

My sympathy on your your loss.

I'm in NC with family in both of our biggest tobacco cities, Durham and Winston-Salem. I have a personal anecdote about that very subject, but I won't recount it.

The fact folks can't afford Healthcare, Burial, Cremation. Disgraceful!!
Maybe the local animal crematorium will do it? Those folks are way more reasonable and loving than any funeral home i ever dealt with.

There are very strict laws about how a body may be disposed of. If there weren't, there'd be a lot more murders.

They are licenced to cremate and dispose of only animals.

Returned home. But the crux of my sarcasm stands, some folks can't even afford to claim their loved ones from the morgue, have them transported to a mortuary or crematorium... It's disgraceful and unacceptable
Take care ✌️

These people all grew up being Republicans. Though I try, I cannot change their minds.
