No War with Iran --- Indivisible

Dear DU'ers,

Right now, 92 million Iranians -- many of whom have been bravely rising up against their own tyrannical government in nationwide protests -- are living in fear that another tyrannical regime from across the globe may start dropping bombs on their country within days.

For weeks, FIFA Peace Prize winner Donald Trump has been on the warpath, threatening another devastating war of choice in the Middle East over a nuclear program he claims to have obliterated last year. The same nuclear program, mind you, that was under tight safeguards and international inspections until Trump tore up the JCPOA (Iran deal) during his first term.

Given Trump’s flimsy-to-nonexistent case for a potentially catastrophic military adventure and Iraq War-level false claims from his advisors, you’d think that Democratic leaders would be doing everything in their power to pump the brakes on this war.

But some Democratic leaders have reportedly been hesitant to advance legislation aimed at preventing an attack. Chuck Schumer is telling reporters Trump needs to do more briefings instead of outright saying: No war. And Republicans, as always, will need massive constituent pressure to challenge Trump in any way.

So it’s up to us to demand a vote and let every Member of Congress know that the American people oppose more forever wars. Please call your representative today and demand they act to prevent a war with Iran.

Trump’s handpicked Joint Chiefs chairman is warning that an attack on Iran could turn into a prolonged conflict. Yet the so-called peace president is apparently leaning toward launching strikes anyway -- potentially alongside the Netanyahu government.

With the largest buildup of military forces in the Middle East since the invasion of Iraq, that threat should be taken very seriously. And Congress must act accordingly.

Don’t let your representative dodge responsibility for what comes next. The Constitution puts the power to declare war in Congress’s hands, and Congress also holds the power to prevent war -- if our elected officials have the courage to act.
