(34,837 posts)Some years ago a young Iranian man
made friends with me.
He was the most beautiful man I'd ever
seen. Every time I walked by him, my
eyes would just glom on his beauty.
After we became friends, I learned that
he wanted to be the official translator
of Iranian and Arabic poetry.
So he would send me poems he was
workng on for me to critique. That was
such a great experience, and I also
learned how their poetry works, which
is quite different from English.
It was some of the most beautiful poetry
I've ever read.
He then went on to get a PhD in comparative
religions and became a university professor.

(17,977 posts)thank you for sharing that.
I went to Iran as a military advisor but I also listened and talked to the ordinary Iranian citizen and I learned a lot about Persian culture, to me, it was a real learning experience, one I will never forget.
My heart breaks for the innocent Iranian's lives lost, lives injured, lives forever changed due to this illegal regime in power in the WH.
Oh, and on edit: the food was mouth watering.

(34,837 posts)Once I was looking at a magazine that featured
pictures of homes and their decor.
In one of the houses, there was a framed photo
on the livng room wall called "Allegiance with
Wakefulness," a photograph created by the
artist Shirin Neshat. You can look at it here.

It's really mind shaking and incredibly breathtaking
at the same time.
My Iranian friend translated the feet for me. I'll
see if I can find it and post it later.
I wanted a copy of it for myself, but she was a
high end artist and it was too expensive. So
all I have is the page from the magazine.

Left foot: Martyr, you have gone up and I am on earth. Brother, my face is black, I am ashamed. I had a white horse one day, I had hope in my martyrdom one day. My heart, you were around here last night. Tell me, who stole my white horse? Martyr, I had a wild horse one day, I had hope in martyrdom one day. I ran to the house of wine one night like . . .
Right foot: You who have forgone life, with your warm hands . . . my hands . . . who am your poet and with . . . warm body came . . . to join you, so that we may rise together on resurrection day. Oh, good, oh, brother, at nights I wake with the sound of your bullets, and find myself praying for you. Oh, lonely hero, oh angel of the revolution of Liberty, Life without faith is a kind of death. You who have foregone life, with your warm hands . . . my hands . . .

(53,036 posts)That looks like Armageddon. All those macho men in the administration probably get off on this sort of stuff.

(53,036 posts)We've had these sort of men for a very long time. They like to play wargames as long as they or their families don't have any skin in the game.
They treat the world like a boardgame and soldiers are just pawns and slaughtered civilians are viewed as collateral damage. They play God with other people's lives as if they are somehow superior to all the mere mortals.
