So here we have former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warning that a war with Iran will drain the Pentagons stockpiles and leave the US exposed against rivals like Russia and China.
The US is burning through costly interceptors and missiles, sometimes to shoot down drones worth only about $20,000,while production takes years to catch up.
Washington risks hollowing out its arsenal and weakening its own strategic position.

(40,030 posts)They're working harder to sell FINANCING a war to Americans, than they did to JUSTIFY it
Meh, Congress will give them whatever they want

They are convinced that they know better than everybody while showing abysmal incompetence.

(18,281 posts)Trump's cronies are salivating at the prospect of tapping into that $500B increase in defense spending. And Hegseth will be handing out the no-bid contracts.

(3,198 posts)They're going to nameplate firms. Moreover, there is no denying that there is a defensive missile shortage (interceptors). The problem is that
a lot of $$ is currently funneled to speculative AI crap run by 2 person firms, that will never produce anything of value
for the American public - nor aid in our defense. So the "war profiteers" aren't the ones building ships or actually manufacturing things that can intercept ballistic missiles (e.g., General Dynamics, Raytheon, etc.). I think it's useful to point out specifically what kind of graft is going on - who is getting the $$ - and not cast too wide a net. There are real bona-fide contracts that produce useful things and there are bullshit contracts that produce nothing but wealth in cronies pockets. Whatever you think of this conflict, maybe the reason that we are lacking
real items at this time is that this admin has preferentially funneled our tax dollars into the bullshit contracts.

(5,033 posts)They wouldn't have to actually do more than look like they are building up for an invasion of Taiwan but it would scare the hell out of the folks in the Pentagon and maybe a few in the WH. Without getting directly involved supporting Iran, this would have that affect. While always planning for the possibility of a two front war, it is no secret that would stretch military resources to the limit very quickly. Especially true when all our traditional allies are just sitting on the sidelines.
