"The Scariest Photo in My Gallery" -- Warning: graphic and disturbing. Image and story from Imgur

https://imgur.com/gallery/scariest-photo-gallery-jEXMnQy

I don't normally look at other images stored at this site - which I use to get links for DU. This one was very moving.

" .. In the evening, I learned about a seriously wounded man who couldn't be carried away. He had been lying there for a long time, waiting for help, while an enemy drone hovered above him, watching for an evacuation team. But the company commander seized the moment and risked his life to go get him. And they did it - they brought him to the nearest shelter.

Late at night, I went there, hoping I could still help. Several hours of struggle, five or six failed attempts to insert an IV - no more veins left... One last time, by some miracle, I found a vein. We started injecting solutions, his blood pressure rose, a few more injections, and finally - we exhaled. He was stable.

The evac team arrived, we loaded him into the vehicle, and I said: "That's it, boy, hold on. It's over now. The doctors are waiting for you. Just a little longer, and everything will be fine."

They drove away. I sat down, and at that very moment, my combat medic took this photo. A second later, we heard a powerful explosion. Then-silence. Our evacuation team never made contact again. Russians were waiting for them.

Everyone was killed.

1. Perhaps there could have been a warning about the story.

Thank you, no thank you. It’s hard enough to keep things on some kind of an even keel these days. Your story pretty much shot my keel to hell.

Once upon a time I could read a story like that and be ok. Not happy but ok. Not any longer. There is just too much tragedy and too much loss. I’m afraid if I let go I might never stop crying. Up until this spring I’ve been one tough human.

We (in the US) are normally fairly sheltered. I can't imagine what it's like being under threats like this constantly.

Peace to you!

6. You're right. We have led a pretty low stress life compared to much of the rest of the world.

13. Collective consequences will kick in regardless of the percentage of actual public support for Putin.

Fair is fair. I have no doubt we're going to get what's coming to us as well - for being
on the whole collectively self absorbed, entitled, uninvolved in the political process and downright stupid and docile. The current
outbreak of nepo-babies and Dunning Kruger Frat Boyz at the helm is a direct result in the dumbing down of the
citizenry and the normalization of nitwits like Reagan and Dubya. 54% of US adults have a literacy below a 6th grade level. This cake took almost 50 years to bake and the republicans have served it to us.

Those that can should follow the link and read the rest of the original. And maybe even read the comments. Not an easy read.
