IN-07: Carson fends off Democratic challengers in Indiana House primary

Incumbent Rep. André Carson (D-Ind.) fended off primary challengers to win the Democratic primary for his Indianapolis-area House seat, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The race for Indiana’s 7th Congressional District, which Carson has represented for nine terms, is one of several this cycle that saw younger, progressive candidates challenge longtime members of Congress amid mounting frustration with the old guard.

Democrat George Hornedo, a 34-year-old strategist, entered the race calling for “new leadership that listens, fights, and delivers results,” though he stressed to The Hill last year that his bid was “not really about generational change” and more about trying new tactics for the party.

At 50, Carson is notably younger than the median age of lawmakers, which was roughly 58 after the 2024 election.
