Hillary - Here are the facts: People have always had and will always have abortions in all 50 states.

What a fine President she would have been.

Here are the facts: People have always had and will always have abortions in all 50 states.

Abortion pills are safe, effective, and have been used by millions of people.

No court or politician can change either of those realities.

Diversity in Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Among Abortion Patients

[The Guttmacher Institute's] most recent Abortion Patient Survey provides data on a national sample of 6,674 individuals who obtained an abortion at 56 health care facilities across the United States in 2021–2022 (see Methodology below for more details).

Some 1.1% of respondents reported their gender identity as something other than woman or female: 0.7% identified as gender nonbinary, 0.3% as transgender male and 0.1% as something else. Sixteen percent of respondents reported their sexuality as nonheterosexual: 12% said they were bisexual, 2% pansexual, 0.3% lesbian and 2% something else. Most respondents who identified as something other than cisgender also reported that they were not heterosexual.

Applying the overall proportion of respondents who identified as LGBTQ+ to the number of total abortions nationally in 2020 indicates that as many as 149,000 individuals who obtained abortion care that year identified as something other than cisgender and/or heterosexual.

8. My Favorite Abortion
Fri May 15, 2026, 09:39 AM
Yesterday
This week, U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill asked an understandably confused American University scholar to name her “favorite type of abortion.” Law professor Jessica Waters went before a House Judiciary subcommittee to talk about the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act; instead, she was questioned by a visibly pleased with himself Texas lawmaker who clearly crafted his question to be a viral social media moment.

When you see Rep. Gill’s shit-eating grin, you’ll know exactly who he is.

Since Rep. Gill is so interested in our favorite types of abortions, I thought I’d share a few of mine.

My favorite type of abortion is the one that prevents a raped ten-year-old from breaking her pelvis in childbirth.

I also like abortions that keep women from carrying dead fetuses for weeks on end, which is what happened to Marlena Stell in Rep. Gill’s home state of Texas.

My favorite abortions are the kind that stop women from going septic, or prevent 28-year-olds from losing both of their fallopian tubes.

Another favorite? The abortion that means a Texas 21-year-old won’t be forced to carry a fetus developing without a head.

I like the abortion that means a pregnant mother of five with cervical cancer doesn’t have to beg a hospital panel for chemotherapy.

I like the abortion that doesn’t force a woman to travel far from home when faced with a fatal fetal abnormality.

I really like the abortion that stops patients from having to plead for help in videos made in hospital parking lots.

No one likes abortion. It means something went wrong. Regardless of the reason, many people need to have an abortion, which is why it needs to be legal and accessible.

I honestly believe there were a lot more abortions back then than there have been since abortion was made legal. The main problem besides not being safe is illegal abortions cost cash, a commodity poorer people don't have. That forces women without money to use self-inflicted methods. The jackasses in the GOP are too dumb to realize what a can of worms they just opened but they don't give a crap. Lording over women makes them feel manly.

23. Allow me to recommend a book about that!
Fri May 15, 2026, 03:01 PM

The title is The Worst of Times, and the author is Patricia G. Miller. It was published in 1993 and has been out of print for a while now, but there are still used copies floating around that can easily be found online wherever used books are sold. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about what abortion was like in this country pre-Roe.

This book is not for the faint of heart; there are stories in it that will curl your hair. But this information has never been more vitally important than it is now.

From the jacket blurb:

All the oceans of verbiage and tons of newsprint on the subject of abortion boil down to one simple question. That question is not whether we will have abortions but what kind of abortions we will have. It is a question framed in stark human terms in Patricia Miller's The Worst of Times, which introduces us to dozens of ordinary Americans who have had firsthand experience with illegal abortion: women who survived the pain, humiliation, shame, and terror; motherless children of women who died; doctors who treated the terrible consequences of botched abortions; the abortionists themselves - barbers, midwives, mechanics; and the cops, coroners, and DAs charged with upholding the law. Abortion is a complex issue, but it is not an issue that exists abstractly in the eyes of ethicists or theologians. It is an issue that exists in the flesh - in the flesh of women with complicated lives and large responsibilities and a whole web of personal, familial, and moral concerns. As The Worst of Times makes powerfully and painfully clear, it is a question that women must be allowed to answer for themselves.

had friends who did. my small town was lucky, there was an obgyn who did them ‘on the qt’. (everyone knew). but he was very spendy.
it was legal in wis in those days and there was a weekly bus to a clinic over the state line. had a friend who did that, and bled like crazy when she got back. they did a crappy job, and she cd do nothing but cross her fingers and hope. the public hospital probably did more than they admitted. you couldnt get a d&c for a miscarriage at the catholic hospital unless u were married. even then, they grilled u while u bled.

i remember very well when the very catholic president of the cook co board woke up 1 morning and decreed there wd b no more abortions at cook co hospital, even for botched abortions. they closed down the ward. have often wondered how many women died cuz of that man.

i knew more than a few girls and women who wd have ended pregnancies if it werent for the stigma, including my sister. they kicked her out of catholic school as soon as they found out she was pg. 🙄🙄🙄
i went to the same school and had a nun who hated ME for it.

I grew up in Saint Louis - not too far from Chicago. (I live in Pittsburgh now, but my early days were spent in St. Louis.) I hadn't come of age, so we younger girls were told NOTHING! Until we found out too late and some of us were stuck. Others were lucky and there was a complete unfairness and inequity to the whole entire thing. If the young woman's family was rich, they had a way to "save" their daughters.

It was an awful time and we can NEVER GO BACK!!! We can't allow the younger generation to endure this!

Yesterday when I saw Hillary's post, I read it to my husband because I loved how accurate, concise and on target those 2 short sentences were.

Neither of us even remotely questioned the use of the word people. This is a winning message. Any one who came of age before Roe v Wade understands the second even if we didn't know anyone harmed by it.
