President Donald Trumps war with Iran has left dozens of U.S. airplanes damaged and destroyed, a new congressional report has revealed.
Casualties and equipment loss reports have been few and far between for a war that has cost the U.S. billions, with the Defense Department failing to publish its own comprehensive summary of the damage suffered during the fighting.
Several major incidents, such as the downing of two F-15E Strike Eagle pilots over Iran, have garnered significant attention, while other incidents have flown more under the radar. Now the Congressional Research Service says the total number of lost or damaged aerial vehicles could be as high as 42.
The group serves as a nonpartisan think tank that provides information to Congress. It used DoD and CENTCOM statements, as well as news reports, to build a picture of the actual losses of military fixed- and rotary-wing, manned and unmanned aircraft.

The threat of air attacks rendered some of the U.S. bases in the region too dangerous to staff at normal levels, and commanders moved most of the personnel from these sites out of the range of Iranian fire at the start of the war, officials have said.

...Satellite imagery of the Middle East is unusually difficult to acquire at present. Two of the largest commercial providers, Vantor and Planet, have complied with requests from the U.S. government their biggest customer to limit, delay or indefinitely withhold the publication of imagery of the region while the war is ongoing, making it difficult or impossible to assess Irans counterstrikes. Those restrictions began less than two weeks into the war. Vantor said its access-control decisions were made independently and were not mandated by the government.
Iranian state-affiliated news agencies, however, have from the start regularly published high-resolution satellite imagery on their social media accounts that claimed to document damage to U.S. sites.
For this examination one of the first comprehensive public accounts of the damage to U.S. facilities in the region The Post reviewed more than 100 high-resolution Iranian-released satellite images. The Post verified the authenticity of 109 of those images by comparing them with lower-resolution imagery from the European Unions satellite system, Copernicus, as well as high-resolution images from Planet where available. The Post excluded 19 Iranian images from the damage analysis because comparisons with the Copernicus imagery were inconclusive. No Iranian imagery was found to have been manipulated.

....But the review by The Post based on images dating from the wars start through April 14 reveals that scores of additional targets were struck at the sites, which are predominantly used by the U.S. military but shared with the host nations military forces and allies.
The images show that airstrikes damaged or destroyed what appear to be numerous barracks, hangars or warehouses at more than half of the U.S. bases that The Post reviewed.
?v=8Iran destroyed a good number of US bases in the region. trump and Hegseth are trying to hide the amount of damage. The costs estimates for this "war" do not include repairing or replacing these damaged facilities.

(9,967 posts)The photos indicate that this is not true and that we believed our own propaganda about Iran's military weakness.
Now we are being lied to and no ready exit strategy.

The photos of the damage look like precision targeting combined Putin intelligence to identify targets.
The damaged bases look to have zero protection and (not or) lots of hubris.

(660 posts)a cake walk like Venezuela and then all that Iranian oil and gas would be theirs for the taking. There is a reason why previous Presidents showed Netanyahu the middle finger each time he came looking for an ally to join him in a war against Iran.

(22,761 posts)You can literally buy it off the internet. Just search for satellite imagery for sale. It's chock full of some pretty good, up to date info. The only limiting factor is how much money you have. Iran has quite a bit. That's the price of imaging satellites becoming a for profit venture and not exclusive to nation states anymore. They'll sell to whoever's got the cash. Few questions asked.

(22,761 posts)The only exit strategy is a bad deal that leaves the brutal Iranian regime even stronger. And the US weaker. Not so all powerful after all. Seems Donnie fired everyone at DoD who told him this was an extremely bad idea. And what happens when all that's left are yes people.
There's a reason the US hasn't poked Iran militarily since Reagan. The geography was always bad, tactically, strategically and economically. Couple that with advances in cheap drones and sat intel all over the internet, and it's obvious why no one with any intelligence at all would even contemplate it. Except Shitler and Nuttyahoo.
