FL-20: Wasserman Schultz running in redrawn Florida district
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) announced Friday shes running for another term in Congress in a new district after GOP-led redistricting backed by Gov. Ron DeSantis roiled the Sunshine State.
Today, Im announcing my candidacy for Floridas 20th congressional district. Ill continue to use my seniority in Washington to make Broward a safer, less expensive place to live, raise a family, and retire. We cannot let [President] Trump and DeSantis take away Broward Countys power, said Wasserman Schultz, who currently represents the 25th Congressional District, which was dismantled under the new congressional map.
The deep-blue 20th District was previously held by Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who resigned from Congress last month amid allegations of financial misconduct that were poised to lead to her expulsion from the chamber.
But Cherfilus-McCormick is already running again for the now-reconfigured 20th District, teeing up a Democratic primary showdown with Wasserman Schultz.
