The New York Times reported that part of the deal on the table includes a $300 billion investment fund to help rebuild Iran at the end of the war. The report was published at a time when the Trump administration and Iranian officials are in a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global waterway for energy trade, which has prolonged the over three-month-old conflict.

"Iranian official described it as a 'reconstruction program' that would be promised to Iran in the event a final agreement was signed. Earlier in the negotiations, Tehran had demanded reparations for bombardment damage that some Iranian officials estimate at $300 billion to $1 trillion," according to the report.

Analysts and observers reacted to the report on social media.

10. It's the right thing to do

Donald F. Trump bombed Iran back to the Stone Age for absolutely no good reason. I'd say it's on us to make them whole again.

Given that, I want a few changes here.

1. Immediate removal from office by impeachment and conviction of every single member of the Trump Administration.
2. Seizure and sale of all assets of every single member of the Trump Administration.
3. Ship every single member of the Trump Administration off to a medium-size city in a blue state to work as shelf-stockers at Walmart. Garnish their wages until the debt is retired.
4. Seize all funds raised through the sale of things like NFTs, coins, watches, sneakers, flags, hats and any other items with Donald F. Trump's name or likeness on them on or after 12:01 pm January 20, 2025.
5. Terminate all contracts for cage fights, concerts or any other entertainment activities to be held on the White House grounds.
6. Terminate plans for ballrooms, victory arches or any other monument to Trump's ego. Trump's personal funds will be used to return the Reflecting Pool to its original color.
7. Remove Donald F. Trump's name from the Kennedy Center, halt any planned renovations, and get some decent bands in there to raise money for Iranian reconstruction.
8. Any statue of Donald F. Trump must be melted down and the metal sold on the open market.
9. The Boeing 747 gifted to Donald Trump by the Government of Qatar is to be sold on the open market.
10. Every vote cast for Donald F. Trump in the 2024 election must be rendered fraudulent and discarded. As Donald F. Trump will now be reported as receiving zero votes, the candidate who won the election with this new vote total in place will be inaugurated and given carte blanche to attempt to return the United States to a state of rationality.
